EPISTLE Core ModelOverviewThe EPISTLE Core Model (ECM) is an integrated data model that covers the information requirements of the full process plant life cycle and enables integration of process plant information with other enterprise information. The ECM is standardized as ISO 15926-2, and is also the basis for ISO 10303-221. The EPISTLE Core Model is designed to be used in conjunction with reference data: standard instances that represent information common to a number of users, process plants, or both. The support for a specific life-cycle activity depends on the use of appropriate reference data in conjunction with the data model. The EPISTLE Core Model is intended as the basis for implementation in a shared database or data warehouse. EPISTLE templates specify how the ECM can be used to support exchange between applications and repositories. EPISTLE Core Model Version 4.0The EPISTLE Core Model Version 4.0 is a major revision to the previous release of the EPISTLE Core Model (version 3.1). Version 4.0 was approved for publication by the EPISTLE Management Committee at its meeting in February 2001. The entire Version 4.0 documentation can be browsed online. The EPISTLE Core Model Version 4.0 model is the result of resolution of comments raised against the EPISTLE Core Model Version 3.1 (ISO/CD 15926-2) undertaken by the joint EPISTLE data modelling team. The issues log for ISO/CD 15926-2, which details the differences between version 3.0 and 4.0 of the EPISTLE Core Model (and between ISO/CD 15926-2 and ISO/DIS 15926-2) is on SOLIS (the SC4 Online Information Service) as document ISO TC184/SC4/WG3 N1041. The EPISTLE Core Model Version 4.0 model forms the basis for ISO/DIS 15926-2, which has been submitted for Draft International Standard ballot in August 2001. Comments and issuesComments and issues against the EPISTLE Core Model Version 4.0 can be submitted in two ways.
