Last night saw the final round of league games in the Banchory Darts League.  Having already been crowned league champions Parkers A beat Parkers C 10-0 whilst Parkers B went down 8-2 to Stag A, for whom Bill Muir hit his first 180 of the season.  In the final game of the night second placed Stag B could only muster a 5-5 draw with the Douglas .  Well done to all teams on entertaining season.

The final trophy of the season will be contested on Sunday 20th April as players from all teams are invited to take their place in the League Singles.  This tournament will take place at the Douglas with players to register by 1pm for a 1.30pm start.

Wed 9th April

Parkers A retained the Tennants Cup title with a 5-4 win over Stag B in the final.  Stag B lead the final 4-3 but Parkers A showed character and determination to pull out the last two games for the win.  Congratulations to Andy Ewen and his Parkers A team

Wed 2nd April

Last week saw Parkers A crowned 2007/2008 League Champions after Stag A conceded their game after a fall-out with the Stag landlord.  Stag A will play fulfill their remaining away fixture.  Stag B managed an 8-2 win away to Parkers C whilst Parkers B won at the Douglas by a similar 8-2 score.

This week sees teams battle it out at Parkers for the Tennants Cup.  Teams to register by 7.45pm for 8pm start.  Best of luck to all.

And finally ….. Congratulations to Parkers A on retaining the league title !!

Wed 19th March

Parkers A took a giant stride towards retaining their league title last night as they defeated closest rivals the Stag B 8-2 at the Stag.  Parkers got off to a flying start winning the 1,001 and first two doubles before the Stag B got a point on the board with Kev Fraser checking out 89 on the bull for an 18 dart leg with partner Mark Fraser.  3-1 up after the doubles soon became 4-1 as Mark Thomson beat Stag B captain Graham Fraser 2-nil with legs of 18 and 19 darts which included his 5th 180 of the season as well as a 104 finish.  Davie Forbes got another point for the Stag B as he defeated Richard Merchant but Parkers A then rattled off the remaining 4 games with Jamie Park having a 104 checkout as he beat Kev Fraser whilst Neil Catto checked out 98 to beat Barry Duguid and make the win secure.  Andy Ewen then beat Dick Smith before Campbell Ross showed good scoring form as he defeated Mark Fraser 2-nil to give the final score of 8-2 to Parkers A.

In the other games last night the Stag A leapfrogged above the Douglas into 4th place with a 6-4 away win for Bill Muir ’s Stag A team.  In the derby game at Parkers it was the B team who triumphed 9-1 over the girls of Parkers C.  Some good darts from Barry Chalmers of Parkers B who had an 18 dart leg and a 130 checkout.

Next week sees Parkers A host the Douglas whilst the girls from Parkers C will hope to add to their points tally away to the Stag A.  Stag B travel to Parkers to face the B team in a must win game for the Stag.

Before all of that though comes the League Doubles Trophy which will be held on Sunday 23rd March.  Please note this event has been moved to Parkers Lounge Bar.  All players should register by 1pm for a 1.30pm start.  Best of luck as always to all entrants.

Wed 12th Mar

Last night in Banchory saw the Captains of each of the teams battle it out for the Captains Cup.  Reigning champ Andy Ewen of Parkers A made his way through to the final by defeating Louise Grubb (Parkers C) and then Bill Muir (Stag A) before facing Graham Fraser of Stag B in the final.

Unfortunately for Andy he didn’t bring his A-game to the final and Graham Fraser deservedly won the title 3-1 with a 19 dart leg in the final helping him on his way.  Andy Ewen had a 180 in his semi-final.  Congratulations to Graham Fraser on winning the Captains Cup.

Next week sees a return to league business with the potential title decider between Stag B and Parkers A taking place at the Stag.  The Stag A visit the Douglas whilst Parkers B host the girls from Parkers C.  Best of luck to all teams.

Wed 5th March

League business in Banchory last night as the teams continued to battle it out for the league title.

Parkers A defeated Parkers B 9-1 with 180s hit for the A Team by Johnny Merchant and Jamie Park whilst Neil Catto of the A Team hit 3 treble 19s for a 171.  Parkers A remain in top spot in the league on legs difference from Stag B.

Stag B defeated the Stag A 7-3 to stay level on points with Parkers A with Graham Fraser of Stag B finding form again with a splendid 15 dart leg.  Team mate Barry Duguid hit another 180 as the B team ran out victors.

Last game of the night saw the girls from Parkers C claim another point as they drew 5-5 with the Douglas .  The girls will be looking to claim another point or two in the remaining games to get themselves off the bottom of the league.  Their game away to the Stag A in three weeks time will be their best chance of further points so come on girls, hit those doubles !

Next week sees the team captains competing for the Captain’s Cup in the Douglas .  Usual register by 7.45pm for 8pm start.  All the best to all entrants.

Wed 27th Feb

Wednesday night saw the singles and pairs champions from each team battle it out at Parkers for the Tom Davidson Singles and Forest Pairs titles.  In a fairly low key evening it was a case of play it again Sam as the Tom Davidson Singles was won by Barry Chalmers (Parkers B) for the 4th year in a row whilst the Forest Pairs title was retained by Richard Merchant & Mark Thomson (Parkers A).

Barry won the title after defeating Bill Muir (Stag A) 3-2 in the final despite some erratic darts !  Bill had won through to the final having beaten Burness Thow in a closely contested semi-final whilst Barry took advantage of some poor finishing from Graham Fraser (Stag B) in his semi-final to win through after defeating Emma Smith (Parkers C) in his opening game.

The Parkers A pair of Richard Merchant and Mark Thomson retained their title without dropping a leg as the beat the Stag B pair of Davie Forbes and Adam Smith 3-0 with some solid, if unspectacular darts, having defeated Raymond MacIntosh and Stevie Fraser (Parkers B) 2-0 in their semi-final.  Davie and Adam made it to the final with a win over Marie Kemp and Gillian Mitchell of Parkers C in their semi-final.

Congratulations to all who took part.  Best darts of the night was an 18 dart leg from Barry Chalmers.

Wed 13th Feb

Last week saw the Ladies battle it out for the singles title with some good darts thrown on the night from all of the girls.  The title of Banchory Ladies Singles Champion 2008 went to Gillian Mitchell of Parkers C who overcame the challenge of team mate Marie Kemp.  A good win for Gillian having been runner-up to Jo Burt last year.  Well done to all who took part.

Wed 20th Feb

Last night saw the teams back in league business.  Parkers C hosted league leaders Parkers A with Richard Merchant of the A team the top performer in this one with an 18 dart leg as the A team won 10-0.  Hot on their heels the team from the Stag B kept the pressure on with an 8-2 win away to the Douglas .  The Stag B were on fire as Davie Forbes had an 18 dart leg, Barry Duguid had a 17 dart leg and Dick Smith hit his first 180 of the season.  Darren Gardiner had a 108 finish.  The last game of the night saw Parkers B manage a hard fought win against Bill Muir’s Stag A team.

Next week sees the team’s champions fight it out for the Tom Davidson singles and Forest Pairs titles.  Teams should register by 7.45pm for an 8pm start.

Site Updated 06.02.08
League business in Banchory last night with the top two teams both recording wins to stay locked together on the same points at the top.  Parkers A defeated the Stag A 8-2 with Neil Catto of Parkers A hitting a 180 and team-mate Campbell Ross hitting a 114 checkout whilst Bill Muir of Stag A recorded a 20 dart leg in his win over Neil Catto.  The Stag B had a 9-1 win at home to the girls from Parkers C with Barry Duguid of Stag B hitting a 180 and Graham Fraser of Stag B finishing 114.  Parkers B recorded a 10-nil win over the Douglas after they failed to turn up for the game for the second week running.

Next week sees the Ladies Singles competition being played at Parkers.  7.45pm register for 8pm start.  Best of luck to all those taking part.

Wed 23rd Jan 2008
Last week saw players competing in the Under 25s cup and the Over 35s cup competitions.

The U25s Cup was won by Kevin Fraser (Stag B) for the second year running after he beat his brother Graham Fraser (Stag B) in the final.

The Over 35s Cup was won by Davie Forbes (Stag B) who beat Neil Jaffray (Parkers B) to take the title.

Wed 16th Jan 2008

There were just the two league games played in Banchory last night with Parkers A hosting Stag B whilst the Parkers B and Parkers C teams also battled it out.

Parkers A 4 v 6 Stag B

Yes the Stag B threw the league title race open again last night with a well deserved win against Parkers A.  The scene was set in this one as Parkers A missed six darts at their double in the 1,001 before the Stag B checked out.  The Stag B extended their lead as they won two of the three doubles, with Stag B debutant Doug Booth hitting a 118 checkout, to lead 3-1.  Davie Forbes (Stag B) then hit a 180 on his way to beating Richard Merchant whilst Kevin Fraser (Stag B) had a 17 dart leg as he beat Andy Ewan.  Mark Thomson (Parkers A) stemmed the flow as he defeated Doug Booth 2-nil with a 13 dart leg from Mark being the highlight of this match.  Campbell Ross (Parkers A) played well to win the next match before Mark Fraser (Stag B) managed to overcome Neil Catto in the penultimate singles to win the match for the Stag B.  With legs difference potentially important come the end of the season the final game may yet prove crucial as Jamie Park of Parkers A beat Graham Fraser to give us a final score of 6 v 4 to the Stag B.

Parkers C 4 v 6 Parkers B

The girls from Parkers C were hosting the Parkers B colleagues in the hope of adding to the 2 points they picked up before Christmas when they defeated the Douglas.  Although they once again showed just how well they can play the girls eventually went down 6 v 4.  It could have been all so different as they sat level at 2 v 2 after the doubles but the Parkers B lads managed to win the first few singles.  Gillian Mitchell did win the last singles, beating Daz, to give the scoreline a more realistic look but the girls will be disappointed to have lost this one as a draw looked a distinct possibility at one point.  Don't be surprised if the girls manage to climb off the bottom of the table before the end of the season with the Stag A being the team very much in their sights at the moment.

The Stag A v Douglas game was postponed this week due to the Stag A being unable to raise a team.

Top performances came in the top of the table clash as the Stag B's Davie Forbes hit a 180, Doug Booth hit a 118 checkout and Kevin Fraser had a 17 dart leg.  Mark Thomson of Parkers A replied with a 13 dart leg.

Next week sees the Over 35s and Under 25s playing at the Stag for the two tiles.  As always register by 7.45pm for 8pm start.

Wed 11th Jan 2008

Last week saw the 6 teams battle it it for the Leys Cup at the Douglas hotel in Banchory.  This is a four man team competition with 4 sinbgles and two doubles of one leg 701 with double start.  A 1,001 is played if the teams are level at 3-3.

The final in this one was a battle of the B teams as the Stag B and Parkers B battled it out for the crown.  It was the Stag B team of Graham Fraser, Kev Fraser, Davie Forbes and Dick Smith who triumphed in this one as they ran out 4-2 victors in a keenly contested final.

The Stag B had reached the final after defeating the girls from Parkers C in the semi-final whilst Parkers B had a hard route to the final as the squeezed past the hosts, The Douglas, in the quarter final on a 1,001 play-off before defeating the holders, Parkers A, in the semi-final.  Barry Chalmers of Parkers B was in good form in the semi as he won his singles and then hit the winning double in his doubles whilst Raymon MacIntosh was also in good form as he beat Andy Ewan before he and Neil "Dumbo" Jaffray won the second doubles to secure a 4-2 win.

A good win for the Stag B team then and Parkers B will be happy with their "bragging rights" over Parkers A for a few weeks !  Congratulations to both !

Next week sees a return to league business with league leaders Parkers A looking to bounce back from this defeat at home to second placed Stag B.  Parkers B and Parkers V will face off at the same time whilst the Stag A game against the Douglas has been postponed.

Wed 12th Dec

It was League Triples time in Banchory this week with 11 teams of three competing for the title which was won by Richard Merchant, Johnny Merchant and Andy Ewan of Parkers A last year.  That same trio put in a sterling defence of their title last night as they defeated the two Parkers B teams on their way to the final with Johnny Merchant hitting his second 180 of the season in the semi-final and Richard Merchant having a 24 dart leg from 701 in the first match (29.2 average).

In the final they met their colleagues from Parkers A, Jamie Park, Campbell Ross and Mark Thomson who had a tough route through to the final having beat both of the fancied teams from hosts the Stag B as well as the lone team from the Stag A.  Mark Thomson hit his fourth 180 of the season in defeating Kev Fraser in the first match against the Stag B (1).  The semi-final against the Stag B (2) went all the way to a 1,001 decider.  Ewan Ferries and Adam Smith had beaten Campbell Ross and Jamie Park to give the Stag B (2) a 2-1 lead after the singles (Mark Thomson having defeated Mark Fraser in the first game) but Mark Thomson & Jamie Park just edged out Mark Fraser and Adam Smith in the doubles to set up the decider.  The Parkers A (2) team picked up their game in this one and Campbell Ross hit the winning double to send them into the final.

The final was a high quality game as Mark Thomson defeated Richard Merchant in the first match before Andy Ewan pulled it back level as he beat Campbell Ross in the second with some very good scoring and a good 76 finish.  Jamie Park then won the crucial last singles against Johnny Merchant to give the A (2) team the edge going into the doubles.  The doubles saw Richard Merchant and Andy Ewan facing up to Mark Thomson & Jamie Park and it was the latter pairing who won the day after some good scoring set up Mark Thomson to hit the winning double in a 27 dart leg from 701 (26.0 average).  Andy Ewan hit his second 180 of the season in this final game too.  Thanks to Emma as always for marking the final !

A good night of darts then at the Stag Hotel and well done to all who entered.

Next week sees the last league games before the Christmas break with Parkers B hosting Parkers A, the Stag B at home to the Stag A and the Douglas entertaining Parkers C.  Best of luck to all.

Wed 28th Nov - TSB Trophy

It was TSB Trophy time in Banchory last night as 8 teams battled it out for the silverware.  This is a 4 man team event with one leg of 701 double start for the four singles and similarly for the two doubles.  A 1,001 play-off was to be used in the event of a draw.  Two teams were entered by both the Douglas and Parkers C, hence the 8 teams.

The final was an all Parkers affair as defending champions Parkers A retained their title with a 4-0 defeat of Parkers B.

Parkers A made their way to the final with a very hard fought 4-3 win againt the Stag A in the quarter-finals which went all the way to the 1,001 play-off.  Stag A were actually 3-1 up in this one, with some super darts from Ross Gray in particular, before being pegged back.  Parkers A then defeated the Stag B 4-1 in the semi-final with Richard Merchant registering his first 180 of the season.

Parkers B made their way to the final with a 4-2 win over a determined Parkers C team in the semi-final after beating the Douglas in the quarter final.  The semi-final could have been a different story had Yvonne George managed to find her double to finish !  Nae luck Yvonne.

Next week sees the return to league business with Parkers A looking to maintain their lead against Parkers C whilst Parkers B host the Stag A and the Stag B will be hoping to put some daylight between themselves and the Douglas.

Wed 21st Nov

Stag A 0 v 10 Parkers A

The Stag A were hoping to upset the champions this week but were whitewashed in the end as Parkers A won 10-nil with the Stag A failing to win a single leg.  The lads from Parkers were on fire in this one though as captain Andy Ewen had his first 180 of the Banchory season as well as checking out 156.  He also partnered Richard Merchant in a 19 dart leg of doubles.  Richard Merchant then went on to hit a 16 dart leg in his singles whilst Jamie Park had a 20 dart leg.

Douglas 8 v 2 Parkers B

The Douglas bounced back from last week's defeat to consolidate their position in 3rd in the league with this win at home to Parkers B.  Again there were some solid darts in this match as Barry Chalmers (Parkers B) hit his second 180 of the campaign whilst Burness Thow (Douglas) managed a finish of 100 to help the Douglas to victory.  This win sees the Douglas remain 1 point behind the Stag B in 3rd whilst Parkers B sit second bottom on 2 points.

Parkers C 0 v 10 Stag B

Stag B remain in 2nd spot in the league after a comfortable win away to the girls from Parkers C.  Whilst the girls did take a number of legs from the Stag B team they failed to take any of the games.  A 180 from Kevin Fraser helped the Stag B in this one.

Next week (Wed 28th) sees 4 man teams from each of the teams competing for the TSB Trophy at Parkers.  It's double start in this one so important to get away first throw.  Register by 7.45pm for 8pm start

Wed 14th Nov

Back to league business in Banchory last night as the girls of Parkers C entertained the young lads from Stag A, title hopefuls the Stag B hosted Parkers B and a top of the table clash between holders Parkers A and surprise early season contenders the Douglas.

Parkers C 1 v 9 Stag A
This was yet another week where the girls from Parkers could count themselves very unlucky to be on the end of a heavy defeat.  Resplendent in their new red and white darts shirts the girls often outscored their opponents in their games only to miss out on the doubles when they got there.  A classic example here was in the captain's battle as Louise Grubb faced Bill Muir.  Bill managed to sneak this one 2-1 but was outscored in all three legs and can count himself a very lucky boy to have won this one.  The girls did pick up the one game in the doubles as the lovely Jo Burt (complete with new hairdo just for the event !) managed to secure the win for her team.  So 2 points for the Stag A sees them in 4th place on legs difference ahead of their match at home to Parkers A next week.  As to the girls, well one of these weeks the doubles are going to go in and a result is gonna come for them ..... and the new shirts looked lovely ladies !

Stag B 8 v 2 Parkers B
Both teams were missing one or two players in this one due to work committments and the likes.  Stag B pulled in another new signing in Ewan Ferries to aid their cause.  The win went the way of the home team here with Davie Forbes of the Stag B being the top performer on the night as he hit his first 180 of the season on his way to a 15 dart leg.  Great darts Davie !  Stuart Ruddiman and Neil Jaffray secured the 2 wins for the lads from Parkers B.  Stag B move into second place in the league now on 4 points and will looking for another 2 points next week when they visit Parkers to take on the C team.  Parkers B are away to the Douglas next week in what could be a very close encounter.

Parkers A 8 v 2 Douglas
Final game of the night saw Parkers A host the Douglas in the top of the table clash.  The Douglas have started well this season but found it hard going at times against Parkers A.  They made a fight of it early on though despite Tattie managing to put his first 3 darts in the 1,001 off the top of the board for "No Score" !  Parkers won the 1,001 but the Douglas then claimed the first doubles as Mathers finished 86 in his own way with treble 4, double top and double 17 !  Darts Mathers !  Parkers A won the next two doubles, albeit with a real struggle before they eased away in the singles.  Mark Thomson won the first singles with a 26.4 average after a 16 darter and 22 dart leg.  Richard Merchant followed this with another 2-nil win averaging 22.3.  Alan Hutton of the Douglas did manage to beat Parkers captain Andy "The Sandra" Ewen but wins for Campbell Ross, Neil Catto and Jamie Park secured an 8-2 win for the homesters which sees them clear at the top of the league on 6 points.  Parkers A travel to Stag A next week.

Best darts of the night from Davie Forbes (Stag B) with 15 dart leg and 180 and also Mark Thosmon (Parkers A) with a 16 dart leg.

Wed 7th Nov

A break in league business in Banchory on Wed as the six teams contested the Hay Trophy at the Stag Hotel.  This is a six man cup with 3 doubles and six singles all of one leg 701 straight start.

Defending champions Parkers A were pushed all the way in the final of this one by the Stag B team before eventually running out 5-4 winners to retain their trophy.  Parkers A took two of the doubles matches before Richard Merchant beat Davie Forbes in the first singles to ease 3-1 in front.  Wins for Graeme Fraser and Mark Fraser had the Stag B level at 3-3 before a crucial win by Jamie Park, who played his best darts for a while with a 25 dart leg (28.0 average), had Parkers ahead again.  Kevin Fraser then sent the match into the final game as he defeated Campbell Ross in a close game.  And so it was left to the player of the night Neil Catto of Parkers A to win the match as he came out on top against Dick Smith in another very close game.  A hard fought win for Parkers A then as they retained the Hay Trophy but this again showed that it looks to be a very close call between these two teams for most of the silverware this season.

In the semi finals Parkers A defeated the girls from Parkers C 5-0 in what was a much closer game than it sounds.  Some good darts in this one from the girls, in particular Marie Kemp, Laura MacIntosh and Emma Smith.  The Stag B team beat the Stag A team by a similar 5-0 scoreline to secure their place in the final.  The Stag B had earlier beaten Parkers B by a 5-1 score in their quarter final whilst the Stag A reached the semis after a 5-1 win over the Douglas.

Best darts of the night came from Neil Catto of Parkers A who hit 2 x 180s.

It's back to league business next week with a top of the table clash between Parkers A and the Douglas at Parkers whilst Parkers B travel to the Stag to face the B team.  The Stag A visit the girls of Parkers C.

Please note that this week's Hay Trophy is a 6 man team event with 3 doubles and 6 singles of one leg 701 straight start.

Wed 31st Oct

Stag B 4 v 6 Parkers A

Last night’s league games paired the two fancied teams for this years title in an early season showdown with reigning champs Parkers A visiting the Stag B.  The challengers got off to the perfect start too by taking the 1,001 and the first doubles before Parkers A rallied to square things 2-2 after the doubles.  Best darts in the doubles came from father and son pairing of Johnny & Richard Merchant who had a splendid 15 dart leg including a 180 from the auld man himself !  Into the singles and some solid darts from the Parkers A team saw them move into a 5-2 lead before a 20 dart leg from Jamie Park saw off the determined challenge of Davie Forbes to give Parkers A an unassailable 6-2 lead.  Adam Smith, who was back to something like his true form, and Graeme Fraser won the last two singles for the Stag B to give the final score of 6-4 to Parkers A.  A good win for the reigning champions but a very hard fought win too.  Should be a real ding-dong battle between these two for the rest of the season.

Some great darts on the night in this match with Johnny & Richard Merchant having a 15 dart leg, Richard Merchant then having another 15 dart leg in his singles as well as a 106 checkout.  Mark Thomson of Parkers A had an 18 dart leg which included another 180 and Johnny Merchant also hit his first 180 of the season.

Parkers B 9 v 1 Parkers C

Parkers B hosted the girls from Parkers C last night in what was actually a much closer game than the scoreline suggests.  There were a number of the games which could have gone the way of the C team if they’d just been able to find their doubles but you have got to hit them ladies !  Still, it was a solid enough performance from the Parkers B team who picked up their first points of the season which sees them climb into 4th place in the league level on points with the Stag B.  Best darts on the night in this one came from Barry Chalmers of Parkers B who hit a 180.  Parkers C will be looking for their first points of the season in a fortnight when they host the young lads from Stag A whilst Parkers B will be hoping to upset the odds away to the Stag B on the same night.

Douglas 5 v 5 Stag A

After topping the league after the first week the Douglas were looking to keep that form going as they entertained the Stag A at the Douglas.  It looked like they may just do it too after they took the 1,001 to go one up.  Better darts from the Stag A team brought them right back into it though before they went on a winning spree in the singles to move 5-2 ahead with three games remaining.  A good 19 dart leg from captain Bill Muir helped the Stag A into what seemed to be an unassailable lead.  Still, this is a much improved Douglas team this year and they are certainly not without a fighting spirit.  The Douglas took the 4th and 5th singles matches to leave the score poised at 4 v 5 before the last game between Alan Hutton of the Douglas and Ross Gray of the Stag A.  In a tense match it was the Douglas man who managed to hold his nerve best as he closed out the game and secured the draw for the Douglas.  A point for the Douglas sees them in 2nd place in the league which means it’ll be a top of the table clash in a fortnight when they visit Parkers A.

Next week sees 4 man teams from each of the teams competing for the Hay Trophy at the Stag.  This is a double start competition with one leg of 701 for both the doubles and singles so it’s a must to get away first throw !  Register by 7.45pm for an 8pm sta

Wed 24th Oct 2007

Last night saw the opening fixtures in the league.  A slight change in format this year.  Teams can now name up to 7 players on the night and may rotate these players between the 1001, doubles and singles games.

Parkers A 10 – 0 Parker B:  Defending league champs Parkers A strolled this one.  Excellent darts from Richard Merchant as he defeated Barry Chalmers with two 19 dart legs (26.37 average).

Parkers C 0 – 10 Douglas:   These teams met in last weeks Milne Cup, not such a close affair this time as Douglas ran out 10-0 victors.

Stag A 2 – 8 Stag B:  Stag A went 1-0 up after winning 1001 but rued missed chances in the doubles as Stag B took all 3 to go 3-1 up.  Stag A won the opening Singles match to cut deficit only for Stag B to rally and take the remaining 5 singles with the loss of just 1 leg.

Next Week, Stag B and Parkers A play up at the Stag.  Stag A travel to Douglas, and Parkers B play Parkers C.

Wed 17th Oct 2007

Last night saw the start of the Banchory Darts season with the six teams contesting the Milne Cup at Parkers.  This is a six man (or woman) team event with 1,001, 3 x doubles and 6 x singles.

Defending champions Parkers A were handed a difficult quarter final match against the Stag B team who are a lot of people’s hot tip for the League this year after making a number of good signings.  This was a nip and tuck affair with Parkers A eventually running out 6-3 winners thanks to Johnny Merchant’s win over Dick Smith in the penultimate singles.  This set up a semi-final with the Parkers B team who overcame the Stag A in a tense match which went all the way to a 1,001 decider after the teams finished the match level at 5-5.

The all Parkers semi-final was over in double-quick time as Parkers A overcame their opponents 6-0 with some good scoring matched by some excellent finishing.  The other semi-final saw the girls from Parkers C take on the Douglas.  The Douglas raced into an early lead in this one before the girls fought right back to level things at 5-5 with Emma Smith overcoming her opponent in the last singles to send the match into another 1,001 decider.  The girls started well in the 1,001 but the Douglas managed to pull out a couple of good scores at the right time to get back into it before finally hitting that all important double which saw them head into the final.

So the first final of the season was contested between Parkers A and the Douglas.  The defending champions opened up a 4-0 lead before the Douglas fought back to take the first two singles matches.  Needing two more wins to retain their trophy Parkers A looked to the father and son duo of Richard & Johnny Merchant to close out the match.  Richard Merchant won a close match to leave the glory to his “auld man” Johnny who hit that winning double again and the Milne Cup was retained by Parkers A.

Some good darts thrown on the night with Mark Thomson of Parkers A being the top performer hitting 2 x 180s and having a 122 checkout on the bull.

Last Wednesday night saw the conlusion of the inaugural Banchory Darts Summer League Singles competition with the semi-finals and final being played at Parkers Lounge.  The first semi-final saw Bill Muir (Stag A) beat Richard Merchant (Parkers A) 4-3 in a very close match which saw Bill take out the highest checkout of 126 on the bullseye whilst the other semi-final saw Mark Thomson (Parkers A) defeat Struan Dunnachie (Stag A) 4-0 with some clinical finishing.  The final looked to be a tense and close encounter as the score stood at one leg apiece before some high scoring and further clinical finishing from Mark Thomson saw him take the title with a 5-1 scoreline at the end.  Mark also took the cash prize for most 180s hit thoughout the tournament hitting 13 during the 9 weeks.

The competition, which was open to all those who had played in the Banchory Darts League in the preceeding season, was run over 9 weeks in Parkers Lounge with an open draw competition each Wednesday night.  Points were awarded to each participant depending upon how they fared each week.  At the end of the first 8 weeks the top 4 players in the Summer League were then drawn to play in the semi-finals and final to decide the Summer League Singles Champion for 2007.  Cash prizes were awarded for the Winner, finalist and 2 semi-finalists as well as to the highest placed female player.  Further cash prizes were awarded to the player hitting the most 180s and the player hitting the highest checkout during the competition.  The Wooden Spoon was awarded to the player with least points at the end of the competition and this accolade went to Andy Ewan (Parkers A) !

The competition was very kindly sponsored by R.Merchant Flooring, G&I Anderson and Parkers Lounger Bar and will now run annually.  Many thanks go to the sponsors and all of those players who took part during the competition.
