Tayside, Perthshire and Angus, my homeland in the Scottish highlands
and surrounding area.
Tayside - Angus, Dundee and Perthshire
Tayside is a large and diverse area encompassing
the Counties of Perthshire, Kinross and Angus and the City of
Dundee. Perthshire includes Loch Laidon with its huge population
of wild brown trout at the western extremity of Rannoch Moor,
one of Europe's last true wilderness areas. Kinross expands south
and includes Loch Leven, Scotland's most famous trout loch. Angus
reaches east to the estuary of the River North Esk said to be
one of the World's most prolific Atlantic salmon rivers and north
to Loch Lee home of Arctic char nestled in the sub-alpine heights
of the Grampian Mountains.
The mighty River Tay drainage is the largest in the
United Kingdom and home of record fish including the largest ever
rod caught salmon in Britain. This monster weighed 64 pounds and
was landed by Miss Georgina Ballantine at Glendelvine on October
7, 1922. Since then Tayside has held the record for the largest
wild brown trout in the United Kingdom and it is very likely that
it will produce another record breaker in the future. Excellent
quality roach and huge pike inhabit some of our lochs and rivers.
The varied sea shore of Angus provides excellent sea fishing,
especially for North Sea cod.
Within Tayside's rich territory of mountain, moor,
farmland, seashore, cliffs and estuaries there are many great
angling opportunities waiting to be explored and enjoyed.
For the meantime however Ally's Angling Page will concentrate
on gamefishing. "Angling in Tayside"
guide book covers all aspects of fishing in Perthshire, Angus
and Dundee.
