| Landing a R Tay trout |
Guided fishing for trout and salmon, grayling
and pike, and tuition
Tayside offers lots of fantastic fishing opportunities.
This is a large area and its rivers and lochs vary tremendously
in character throughout as to when they fish best. Seasons, weather
and runs of fish play a large part in your chances and availing
yourself of experience and knowledge of local conditions is the
best chance that you will have to enjoy sport. The "Angling
in Tayside" goes a long way to helping those who are
not familiar with the area find their way around and for many
visitors that will be sufficient. However, if you want to experience
fishing with expert advice and tuition to hand, be it for salmon,
trout, sea trout, grayling or pike, that can be easily arranged
by contacting Ally who will be pleased to offer advice or help
you in any way to enjoy your stay in this magnificent area of
Scotland. Check out other resources on the web such as flyfish-scotland,
letsflyfish or any of
the links on the links page for more information.
There is plenty of fishing availability for wild
brown trout and grayling on rivers, especially in Perthshire.
The rivers range in size from tiny to really large - the lower
Tay for instance. On the smaller waters thigh waders are sufficient,
elsewhere chest waders are recommended. There is very little fishing
pressure on many stretches and so it is not unusual to have to
bushwhack through scrubs and herbage to reach pools. On other
parts there is good access even for 4x4 vehicles and so with a
guide you are able to get there whether you are super fit or less
able. The situation is similar on the lochs. Some require several
miles of walking over the hills and are not recommended for the
feint hearted, others have roadside access or are provided with
boats and so they can be accessed easily provided that you are
capable of controlling a sturdy clinker built vessel on oars.
If not, don't worry you can always get a guide to do the job!

| Playing a R Tummel Salmon |
Salmon and sea trout fishing is much more difficult
to obtain because of the demand for it. It often requires
local knowledge and an ear to the ground to know where any
short notice vacancies occur. Also the runs of fish vary
from year to year and are defendant upon the weather, or
rather rainfall. With local knowledge of the pools, water
heights and runs of fish it is often possible to land fish
where others would really struggle. A proper guide will
put you in the best places with the best percentage chance
of a hookup but you have to be prepared to rise early in
the morning or stay late at night fish the best periods
at certain times.
Perhaps you are new to fly fishing or you wish
to hone your skills against our fish? In either case top
class fishing and fly casting tuition can be arranged. You
can even learn to make your own flies or become familiar
with some of the World famous flies that have been developed
in Perthshire, Angus and Dundee over the years. Flies like
the Dunkeld, Peter Ross, Mallochs Favourite, Benchil, Cascade,
Ally's Shrimps to name but a few.
Whatever your game fishing requirement are,
think tactics, think trophies, think trout and salmon, think
Tayside.
