In the Central Highlands, Lochearn is outstandingly beautiful. Deep and mysterious and
fringed by trees, steep hillsides and mountains is a a vision of splendour, especially in
the Autumn. Its eastern village is St Fillans where the views to the west are without
equal.
Activities on the Loch include:- Fishing (Brown/rainbow trout and Char), Waterskiing,
Kayaking, Dingy sailing, Archery and
guided walks. All may be arranged with Lochearnhead activity centre.
A seaplane is often seen around the loch and is used for training and may be hired for
short flights.
About 12 miles / 20 minutes from Callander
Shops
Groceries, souvenirs and a Tweedie kind of woollens shop.
Things to do
Walk up the old railway pathway and see magnificent Glenogle as you walk over the
famous viaduct 200 feet above
the modern road and the military road built by the redcoats.
Hire a dingy or go water ski-ing on Loch Earn
Drive down to St Fillans on the old road on the south side of the Loch.
GlenOgle head and Ben Lawers:
West from Callander on the A84, past the The Lade Inn for about 15 miles
via Strathyre and Lochearnhead. Proceed up GlenOgle and after the road levels out and
starts to drop, watch out for a picnic area on the right. Park there and walk along the
track to see the best view of Ben Lawers - nearly 4000ft of it. Note the memorial to the
RAF pilots on your right.
Limited car park area. Seasonal snackbar . No Toilets.
Falls of Leny
From Callander, drive west through Kilmahog towards Strathyre and the Falls and
carpark are sign posted about a mile after Kilmahog. Take care crossing as the carpark is
on a bad corner. Parts of the footpath by the river are in need of repair so watch your
feet!
At one time this pass was one of the main routes into the Highlands (and still is). If
you imagine yourself as a Roman Legionaire in a foreign and hostile land you can well
understand why the Romans stopped at Kilmahog and ventured no further!

Drive up the A84 for about three miles from Callander past the The
Lade Inn . A Loch comes into view on the left. Keep going until you see a picnic
area with a signpost on the left. Pull in here and look at the view over the loch whilst
the kids play by the water at the little beach. On your way back, lookout for the Leny
Falls carpark on your left, the Falls of Leny are well worth while if the river is running
high.
Carparks. Occasional snackbar. No toilets!
