| 7 | Prince | Alexander of Serbia | 1806 | 1885 | Persida Nenadovich | 1813 | 1873 | The history of Serbia in the 19 th and 20 th Century is somewhat complex due to rivalry between two feuding families from the Houses of Karageorgievich and Obrenovich. Prince Alexander was from the House of Karageorgievich and a son of Djordje (George) Petrovic (1752-1817) founder of the Karadjordjevic dynasty. Prince Alexander was elected Prince of Serbia in 1842 but was forced to abdicate in 1859 in favour of Prince Milosh (1780-1860) from the House of Obrenovich. Serbia which became a Kingdom in 1882 was ruled by the House of Obrenovich until 10 June 1903 when its King, Alexander I (1876-1903) and his wife Queen Drago were murdered in their palace during an army revolt. The rule of Serbia returned to the House of Karageorgievich in the shape of Peter I | ||

King Alexander along with the French Foreign Minister Louis Barthouwas was assassinated on 9 October 1934 in Marseilles at the start of a state visit to France by Velucko Kerin a Macedonian revolutionary, working with Croat revolutionists. The assassin who was shot during the affray died a few hours later. Marie escaped possible assassination as she was recovering from an illness and being a poor sailor had travelled separately from Yugoslavia to France by train. For strategic purposes Alexander had travelled by boat from Yugoslavia to Marseilles and was due to meet up with his wife in Dijon/Lyon for the final journey to Paris. | |

| 7.6 | Princess | Helen of Serbia | 1846 | 1867 | Djordje Simic | 1843 | 1921 | Most sources on the Internet omits the year of birth of Djordje Simic. Following some investigation by me on the Internet in which I identified a Djordje Simic Prime Minister of Serbia I posted a query on the "The Russian-Balkan Royals Message Board" on 29 August 2005. Sam Dotson was kind enough to respond " The excellent genealogical table of the Karageorgevich family which appears in the book - Rodoslovne Tabelitse i Grbovi - published by Nova Kniga, Belgrade, 1987 confirms that the husband of Princess Jelena, Djordje Simic (1843-1921), was, in fact, prime minister ("ministar predcednik")." | ||
