History

1978 LAND ROVER/H.C.B. Angus L4P Fire Appliance. Reg. No. WRM 554S New in 1978 to the British Steel works at Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria then sold in 1983 to Bowater Scott Paper Mills (now Kimberly Clark).  

At Bowaters it was used as a Control Point hence the red & blue flashing lights and a flag pole which is fitted behind the cab on the nearside with a red and white chequered flag ).   Bowaters disbanded the fire service in 1986.

This appliance, a cancelled export order to Tanzania, is based on a 109" Land Rover and clocked up the grand total of 3,700 miles in 23 years before being passed on to a major motor museum in Lancashire in March 2001. The appliance was sold in August 2001 to the present owner for restoration and preservation. Put on the road on 1st August 2004 the fire engine was taken back to Barrow in September whilst doing the Cumbrian Trunk Run and did a round trip of 300 miles.

In 2007 it won ‘Best Industrial Appliance’ at the Preston Hall Fire Engine Rally.
