Dedicated Online Club Forum
Mark Barnes may have stepped down from committee but he's been hard at work behind the scenes and has come up with a dedicated forum for the use of of our members. Please note that like any forum, for this to work well it's entirely dependant on the input of it's users, and without this will fade into oblivion. So please enjoy and most of all use this forum, read enjoy and most of all POST on it. Well done Mark and finally click on the above banner to take you there.

Congratulations Mark Barnes and Mats Akesson
& Vince Pickford

Congratulations to Mark and Mats who both passed their fixed wing examiners tests up at Delyn on Thursday August 14th well done to you both. Whilst on congratulations they must also go out to Vince Pickford who recently passed his BMFA "A" test at the first attempt, Vince being one of the fastest learners we've had at the club, actually passing his test before his BMFA number came through, well done Vince.
Now for a couple of shots of Richie Badham's Composite ARF YAK 55 powered by a BME 110 cc twin. Richie's had the model a while and I am remiss in not publishing photos of it previously. Both Richie and myself have been practicing hard for the forthcoming IMAC UK competition at Rhyl that is when our yet again brilliant summer weather permits.
IMAC UK Competition 19th/20th July Results

The Competition went ahead despite winds around 28 mph some pilots opted out of flying and in all honesty could not be blamed for doing so, I had a bad landing after round two of the knowns and the resulting damage precluded me from taking part in the unknowns, happily the damage was easily repaired and my model was back in the air on Monday afternoon. Richie Badham taking part in his first competition, what a baptism, went on to win Sportsmans with some style. Sadly the strip was looking a little dogeared due to our old faithful mower breaking down on Saturday night but should be well on the way to repair as I write this. Finally a big thank you to Pete Slater, for his photographs some of which I will upload later, and his help in presenting the trophies. BC.
Aerotow 16th/17th August 2008
The event did go ahead yesterday despite the "summer" (joke) weather that has dogged all our events this year. The turnout was small obviously with the weather forecast and the cost of travel these days people are rightly reluctant to travel if the weather looks iffy. All that said those that were there had a good time both tugs had early mechanical issues but some sterling work in the pits soon rectified that whilst a barbecue lunch was dished up. The resident tug pilots were Richie Badham and Leigh Hodson, I'm sorry that I haven't got a list of the glider pilots present but they certainly got plenty of action and good tows. There was some lift about at one time in the afternoon but it soon dwindled. I think the hardy bunch that were there had a good time, indeed they were still hard at it when I left around 6pm, well done to all. Hopefully some photographs will turn up, I was remiss in not taking my camera but I did see George Robson taking some shots so fingers crossed some will be sent in.

Thanks to George Robson for the photos

Just a few lines to describe the club, its based on the area surrounding Rhyl on the North Wales coast, the flying field is just outside Rhyl and a location map can be found lower down this page. Main interests are radio control sport with a large variety of models of all types, power, gliders& tugs, electric, a small amount of control line and rumor has it someone has just invested in a jet (turbine), watch this space. Visitors are welcome to fly with prior arrangement but they must have proof of BMFA insurance before flying.
The Club has an excellent ongoing relationship with the farmer from whose field we fly, and to that end any safety or noise issues are vigorously pursued. The club being BMFA affiliated actively promotes the associations attainment schemes i.e. the "A" and "B" tests for both fixed wing and helicopters (N.B.at this moment in time we are not taking on any trainee helicopter pilots), and to this end we have four BMFA examiners and several instructors. We are also well equipped with a frequency monitor, frequency checker and also a noise meter. We use a peg board as our main safety system, this being of the "peg off" type. If you're in the area and fancy finding out what the hobbies all about pay us a visit at the field and find out.
Where Are We?

The field is on the north side of the road opposite the arrow.
The above map or I should say the red arrow on it gives a rough guide to the location of the club field about 3/4 of a mile west of Rhuddlan on the A547, if you do intend to visit us sometime do take care on the road (A 547)outside the field as parking is very restricted at the field access gate and the traffic is usually fast moving along this stretch. There have been some close shaves over the years. We are very lucky with the field and have very few restrictions on it's use and can fly seven days a week weather permitting. Here's a large scale section of an O.S. map again the arrow indicates the gate to our field and the field is coloured yellow to assist. The grid reference for the gate is SJ 001 776

On this map the field is marked in yellow and the arrow indicates the gate

And here we are on Google Earth, somebody's done a good job mowing the strip !!!

John Barrows' Lancaster AKA The Flying Workmate

Sunday 25th of April saw the maiden flight of John Barrow's Lancaster, it's sound and appearance in the air is truly fantastic and a great credit to John, sadly the landing resulted in some minor damage to the retracts but I'm sure it will not be too long before it's back where it belongs in the air. Well done John, the photo by the way is by John Bowman.
