Folk Club etiquette

Here is a brief guide to folk club do's and dont's, if you see something I've missed, give me an email

DO NOT
Talk whilst there is a singer/turn on stage
Read a book, newspaper, it's the height of ignorance
Leave, before the turns finished (unless it's an emergency)
Expect to get a floor spot, if you turn up late
Automatically expect someone to lend you a guitar/glockenspiel/jews harp, if you've forgotten yours
Sing a song with more than 29 verses!
Utter a rude joke (unless you know the audience well enough!)
Try and tune up your guitar/banjo/mandolin/harp/piano, whilst on stage.

DO
Pay when you enter (unless it's free admission!)
Check to see if it's OK to smoke
Refrain from going to the bar, when the turns on.
Refrain from going to the toilet, when the turns on
Refrain from eating a bag of crisps, while the turns on! (unless they are soggy!)
Only what's has been asked of you (i.e. 3 songs) and not hog the limelight
Join in the chorus
Enjoy yourself!
