GWR 4-6-0 No 4930 "Hagley Hall"

This locomotive was outshopped from Swindon Locomotive Works in May 1929. The class generally worked throughout the GWR System on mixed traffic duties. This engine ran over one and a quarter million miles in its 34yr working life before being sent to Woodhams Scrap Yard in 1964. Eight years later it was rescued and took up residence at the Seven Valley Railway. It was restored and re-entered service on 22 September 1979. It has been a regular runner there ever since and has had a few mainline excursion trips. GWR engines burnt hard welsh steam coal and therefore had a fierce firebox draught. This makes them particularly nice to record as they do bark well when pulling away a heavy bank holiday train particularly on a down train out of Hampton Loade.
