This is a Stanier Class 5 and was outshopped from Crewe Locomotive works in February 1935. It completed 33yrs service before the end of steam on British Railways and was chosen for preservation by the BTC Consultative Panel. It finally made its way to the SVR in 1977 and has done good service both on the SVR line and on mainline excursions. It is a beautifully proportioned and archetypal British Locomotive with a melo exhaust beat but it seems to me to suffer poor driving wheel adhesion. Some times one feels the urge to put your camera and microphone down and just give it a little helping push when pulling out of Bridgnorth Station. Sorry Lads, I'm only joking.
