When Whisper was first published in April 1946 it was apparent that Harrison had come up with something different, not just a rehash of Beauty Parade. The magazine was larger than Harrisons other publications and the cover, painted by Peter Driben, actually related to the contents within. The contents themselves were more sordid than the other magazines, and contained a more violent and blatantly sexual theme. Whisper never reached the sales figures of the other girlie magazines, usually only selling about 600, 000 copies per issue. However when Harrison was forced to sell it in 1958, (along with his very successful "Confidential" magazine), it did manage to survive into the early seventies at the hands of various publishers.
