HOG* extracts from 1841 Census and allocation to the different Branches

This page was started 12 December 2005.    Last update 16 July 07.
A fuller record of what places have been searched can be found in the record section.  This page is taken from there but where no HOG*s have been found the record has been omitted.  Some of the allocations are guessed.  Any corrections or additions are welcome.

The column on the left is what is written on the 1841 census.  On the right is the conjecture and sometimes additional info from other sources such as the 1851 census.

Part of the Mave CALVERT family.  Thomas was baptised 1793 from Cold Moor Cote & is son of Thomas.  A daughter of the elder Thomas was Ann, baptised 1799 who married Stephen BRITTAIN.

This MI from Bilsdale St Hilda is probably relevant:
Beneath this stone is interred the remains of THOMAS HOGGART who departed this life July the 29 1812 aged 58 years. Also MARY his wife departed this life September the 17th 1849 aged 86 years. Also MARY daughter of the above who departed this life December the 27th 1835 aged 38 years.

From the MI file for Bilsdale Abraham died 1844 age 62 and is wife Sarah died 1847 age 58.  From the same source they had a son called George who died 1830 aged 14.

Henry's gravestone is recorded in the Bilsdale part of the MI file.  He died 1867 aged 83.
The younger Sarah, daughter of Abraham and Sarah seems to have married David CHAPMAN of Ellerbeck and died 1852 age 33 according to the Bilsdale part of the MI file.

Mave CALVERT has Hannah BRITAIN born c. 1798 married to Stephen HOGGARD with a son called George born about 1829.

The WOODHOUSE file has Stephen married to Mary KITCHING who died in 1822.  Stephen married Hannah in 1824.

Bilsdale St Hilda has this MI - Sacred to the memory of THOMAS HOGGART who died 7th March 1821 aged 82 years and Mary the wife of STEPHEN HOGGART who died 17th January 1822 aged 29 years. Also the above STEPHEN HOGGART who died June 18th 1829 aged 43 years.

May 2007 Ray HOGGART suggests the Seave Green family is - Stephen lost his wife Mary in 1822 and remarried to Hannah and their daughter Emm was born 1824 and son George in 1829.  Stephen died in 1829 leaving his widow Hannah at Seave Green.  The George born 1829 could be the one in York Gaol in 1851.

I think a back to basics (parish and tenants) review of the Bilsdale lot is required but that's on the back burner for the "summer".

Almost certainly George is of the Ugthorpe Branch and the son of Philip HOGGARTH and Ruth TOPLIFF of Dun Bogs.
Don't know who Mary is.  No evidence of George getting married.  By the age it could be Mary HOGGIT daur of John HOGGIT and Mary WEBSTER who (MW) later married Andrew CARIOLI.  However I think Mary HOGGIT was married to William HARRISON in 1832.
