Educational visits

Pupils of a local middle school complete worksheets about the preserved sand quarry machinery at Stonehenge Works, during one of their educational visits.

The Leighton Buzzard Railway offers teachers an educational outing with a difference, which can be used to support work at Key Stages 1 and 2, or as part of the new requirement for 5 hours of cultural activities. Alternatively, it can just be a fun treat at the end of a long school year!

We will provide information to help you tailor your own teacher resource pack ahead of your visit, together with the loan of a video tape. Prior familiarisation visits can be arranged for teachers, if required. A visit to the Leighton Buzzard Railway is particularly suited to primary and special school children.

On Wednesdays in
June and July, we run a special timetable, designed to fit around the school day, but advance booking is essential. We can also operate on other days, by prior arrangement, and tailor our services to your needs.

The staggered half-term school holiday in October this year means that we are running on two Wednesdays at the end of the month, giving further opportunities for educational visits.

Any group of 10 or more fare-paying passengers, booking in advance and travelling together on a scheduled train, gets a 20% discount on all fares, plus reserved seats.

Email us for more information, or to request a leaflet with booking form. Please give details of the kind of visit you are organising, and your preferred dates--and don’t forget a full postal address.

We also take part in curriculum-related programmes organised by The Greensand Trust, which develops educational initiatives using the resources of the Leighton Buzzard sand quarrying industry.
