Welcome to the rapidly growing game of Shuffleboard. The game was popular in England as early as the 15th Century and called SHOVELBOARD or SHOVEBOARD. The game can be played on indoor and outdoor Courts with people of all ages. Although the game originated in England it became popular on Ocean Liners and Cruise Ships as a deck game. Shuffleboard was introduced about 1913 at Daytona Beach Florida as a game on land. So popular was the game it spread rapidly to other parts of the United States. Since the introduction of the Poly Indoor/Outdoor and the Mini "Roll Out Court" it can be played virtually anywhere. A few examples are Driveway, Porch, Garage, Basement, Tennis Court, Leisure Centre's to name but a few. Although the game is played on a larger scale in America and Canada the International Shuffleboard Association have successfully introduced it to other Countries. There is an International Tournament each year between America, Canada, Japan, Australia and Brazil. The International Shuffleboard Association have introduced the game into Ireland, Denmark and most recently Eastbourne UK. The games held at Devonshire Park Conference Centre were a great success with lots of UK visitors. In 2002 the inaugural in Brazil was so popular they are now hosting the International Tournament in September 2005. One day all these Countries could be competing together Internationally. The Next inaugural in Europe is already being planned for Holland and Germany 2005.
