SAN GOTTARDO
Case File 00026515
On February 14, 1990, in the Italian village of San Gottardo, the electrical power system appeared to go completely out of control. One inhabitant noticed the fusebox outside his house was burning. Another was fitted but this also burned through then, in short order, a series of events plagued the village. Car indicators flashed and engines started, apparently on their own. TV sets switched themselves off and on, a pair of ski boots, an armchair and a wheelchair caught fire, and observers reported car lights "melting in front of their eyes" and bursting into flames. People complained of headaches and skin inflammations which would not report to treatment. No explanation for these events was found, though suggestions ranged from the work of the devil to a test-firing of SDI systems.
