The Black and White Budget
Jan 1900 - Mar 1900
The Black and White Budget was a weekly periodical running during the Second Boer War. It stated "Our large staff of Special Correspondents in South Africa are now sending home pictures which, from the point of view of accuracy and picturequeness, are absolutely unrivalled. The BEST pictures by the BEST men."
The pictures were good, the rhetorical nature of the magazine not so. Those of you familiar with the gung-ho nature of the British tabloids during the Falklands and Gulf conflicts would be surprised by the rhetoric in this journal.
Although the photographs are okay in the magazines they may not scan as well.
I will reproduce the photographs as I can and as web space allows. Where there is an accompanying article I will reproduce that too.
Beware, the pages have a lot of images so may take a while to download.
