DAVID CLAYTON, WRITER
HOMEPAGE
When I was a child, I was a dreamer, exploring woods as if they were Africa, running my own Olympics in terraced streets, creating my own world in our spooky attic and inventing games, not stories. My dad, who left school at fourteen, brought home bundles of books from a second-hand bookshop close by. There, in our old shop wedged amongst cotton mills, a brewery and a bakery, I read about Oliver Twist and Pip but also stories about the Amazon, space, superheroes and soccer stars. Since then, I've been a single parent, met a lot of people, been to a lot of places, worked in factories, a hostel for homeless men, discos, been a postman, a seafood salesman, a high school teacher in Special Needs, an actor and, finally, a writer of around forty books for children. As I grew older, I wanted to share my stories but also to unlock people's dreams. That is how I started writing and performing. On this site, you will find:
