Staffordshire

Whittington
Located in the north east of the county, this village lies a few miles to the east of Lichfield.

In 1648, Whittington was the location where Robert
FULLWOOD  married Dorcas WEIGHAM whose father, Oliver is mentioned in the book "The English Civil War in Stratford-upon-Avon; Conflict and Community in South Warwickshire, 1642-1646."

The oldest Church in the Village is St. Giles. The Church was built during the 13th century of red sandstone, but all that remains of the Church from that period is the Clock Tower.

Incidentally, in the Churchyard there is the grave of Thomas Spencer, the co-founder of Marks & Spencer clothing and food stores. He was born in 1851 at Skipton, Yorkshire. Shortly after retirement he died in July 1905 at a farm in Whittington.
