Middleton-by-Youlegrave
In the latter part of 16th century George Fulwood (who was knighted by King James I in 1606 and subsequently became Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1611), purchased from his brothers Francis and Thomas Fulwood an estate which included Lead mines and a Castle at Middleton-by-Youlegrave in the Dale of Bradford, Derbyshire.

It has not yet been established who was the founder of the Derbyshire branch of Fullwood's.

One historian has claimed a Rudolphus or Randolf Fulwood from Nottinghamshire, was the FULWOOD ancestor who settled in neighbouring Derbyshire in the High peaks area in the 16th century.

Middleton-by-Youlegrave and
Fulwood Castle are located near to Bakewell within the High Peaks area of Derbyshire. Note: the castle is referred to as both Middleton and Fulwood Castle.
