Gold Souk St
Our first night, we went to the Gold Souk, which is a shopping area of a few streets with nothing but shops that sell gold and jewelery. This is a very typical window of one store. Here's a shot down one of the streets of the Souk. Note the arabs in traditional dress just to the left of the German tourists (also in traditional dress).
Burj Al-Arab

The next day, we went to the Wild Wadi water park which is on Jumeira Beach. Behind Grant is the super-luxury 7-star Burj Al-Arab hotel. Being good Americans, we of course went to  McDonald's and had a Big Mac. (I should also note that 99 octane gas was $1.25 a gallon!)
Hotel Pool Nite
The days were warm and the nights were pleasantly cool. Our hotel was the Dubai Marine Beach Resort located at the end of the Jumeira Beach.
Wild Wadi Beach Boy
Here's a view of the  Wild Wadi water park with the Jumeira Beach hotel in the background. The water park had water rides that would push you uphill! On Jumeira Beach, here's our very own beach boy.
Starbucks
Mosque
Maybe all those French farmers were right about globalization! Right across from Starbuck's (and our hotel) was the Jumeira mosque. Hearing the calls to prayer five times a day reminded us we weren't in California!
