| We stayed at the Hotel Borg in Reykjavik, an old
Art-Deco
hotel recently restored. It was very funky and fun (and we think we
were
the only guests!) |
Our first stop was the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal
pool
with reputed powers of rejuvenation. Sooz did look quite good after a
day's
soaking!
|

|

|
We shopped a bit and sampled the local dress.
Grant
is wearing a hollowed-out wolverine on his head (I think). Sooz bought
one
of the sweaters on the rack behind.
|
A good deal of produce is grown in greenhouses.
In
the summer, the whole country's needs are provided locally! Cactus is
grown,
too, just because they can.
|

|

|
We toured the barren countryside and it was
unlike
anything we'd ever seen. Astronauts trained here for their moon walks,
and
we could see why.
|
Grant is next to the impressive Gulfoss
waterfall.
It was cold, windy, and there wasn't another person as far as we could
see.
Eerie!

|
The word 'geyser' is Icelandic. In fact, Sooz
and
Grant are standing next to the original geysir. It can be seen
erupting
as the background of this page.
|
We went to a local municipal pool and Grant went
down
the water slides in sub-freezing temperstures. Quite invigorating!

|

|
A local custom is to have a haircut just before
going
home for Christmas. Grant got his cut so he would fit in with the other
blonde
boys.
|
We had a number of interesting meals, usually a Julbord
with holiday treats like puffin, shark liver, and especially reindeer!
Yum!
