Christmas in ... Obergurgl

In keeping with our recent family tradition, we went skiing over Christmas once again. This time, we went back to Austria and visited the resort of Obergurgl. We went there because it's high up in the Ötz valley and always has snow. (But the real reason is because it's so fun to say "Obergurgl". Try it yourself! Obergurgl, Obergurgl, Obergurgl. Fun isn't it??)

We enjoyed good weather, good skiing (or snowboarding), and had a great time.  Respectfully submitted
below are a few photos for your enjoyment.

As usual, click on a photo to see it full-sized and click again to come back to this page. We hope you enjoy!!

We're not sure who the statue was of, either Herr Gurgl, or DJ Otzi.

Don's view at dinner every night-- not bad, eh??

The bar had a lovely circular fire
at which we could recover from
the day's frostbite.

Here's our hotel room, into
which we would collapse
each evening after a long day
of shredding the slopes.

Diet Coke was available for
those few hours of the day too
early for beer.

After each day's skiing (and frankly the afternoons, too), Sooz would enjoy a gluhwein or two.

Don enjoyed his evening meals. Look closely at this photograph and you can see his arteries closing.

Monday afternoon brought snow. Our hotel is in the background.

The family kept a number of beautiful Haflinger horses at their stable, to whom we provided
many sugar cubes.

Looking down the Gaisburg run into the center of Obergurgl.

It was very cold Tuesday morning,  minus 25C. We had to wrap up and drink more gluhwein as antifreeze.

Hannibal Lecter, Jr. He doesn't
like fava beans, though.

A new 'wellness center' had just been built. Sooz and Grant enjoyed the jacuzzi to soothe ski legs.

Don and Grant also used the indoor/outdoor pool.

Sooz and Grant pausing during
one of their runs.

On the gondola to Hochgurgl.
The hat seemed like a good idea
in the store.

Our Christmas Eve dinner was delicious and festive.

Grant found a few runs he really liked so we often found ourselves looking up or down at each other.

Grant striking a pose as he
boarded by: "heyyyy, thank
you very much!"

We spent quite a bit of time riding the Nederlift and eating at the Nederhutt, actually we were in
all of the Neder regions!

Another  pretty view of Obergurgl nestled in the valley far below.

Don tested his invention, Headcam, which consisted of an elastic bandage to strap his camcorder
to his noggin so he could film
while skiing.

Sooz cutting a rakish pose at Hochgurgl. That's fun to say, too. Hochgurgl, Hochgurgl, Hochgurgl.

We were not as happy as it
appears to have left Innsbruck,
back home to London.

That's all, folks! Click here to get back to the home page.

NEW!! Click here to see a small movie of our time in Obergurgl!
