Holiday in Turkey We
decided to keep up our tradition of going to out of the way places for
our Summer holiday. This year, we went to Turkey and stayed in the
village of Ocakköy
on the "Turquoise Coast."
As usual, we had a great time.
You should know the routine by now; click on a photo to see it full-sized and click again to come back to this page. Enjoy!! |

![]() Our pool had lovely views of the surroundings. The mountains and blue skies were pretty too! |
![]() Sometimes we relaxed in the hammock.... |
![]() ...but usually we were in the pool! Grant was beginning to grow gills. |
![]() Not content with mastering land and sea, Grant decided to take to the air and parasail off Babadag mountain. |
![]() Don went as well, here's the boys posing in "Top Gun" mode. Click here for a small movie of the flight. |
![]() We relaxed after our day of defying death by having dinner at the village's restaurant. |
![]() We spent a lazy day at sea, stopping at little bays and coves in a gullet, a traditional Turkish boat. |
![]() Grant amused himself (and all of us) by leaping from the boat into the beautiful clear water. |
![]() Here's Sooz serving as the Kuddesmycket (which is Swedish slang for "pretty girl on a yacht.") |
![]() Grant got his mom in on the leaping action. |
![]() A quick dip in the jacuzzi to soothe those tired leaping muscles. |
![]() Here's a view of our cottage. |
![]() The next day, Sooz and Don climbed to the top of Kayaköy, a Greek village abandoned in 1923. |
![]() We then drove onwards to Gemiler beach; the island in the background was the home of one St. Nicholas! |
![]() Lots of tortoises and lizards were about. The tortoises were easier to catch. |
![]() We drove to the Saklikent Gorge, quite steep and shady-- and filled with nice cool water. |
![]() We climbed about 2000 meters up the gorge. Grant tried, but wasn't able to move the boulder behind him. |
![]() We ate lunch on the river afterwards-- right on the river, as you can see! |
![]() From Saklikent we took a direct but exceedingly rural road to Xanthos. |
![]() Xanthos is not a Bond villain or a toothpaste ingredient, but rather an ancient Lycian hilltop city. |
![]() Enough culture and climbing-- back to the beach for fast food! |
![]() Our last day was at the lagoon on Ölüdeniz beach, world-famous, and rightly so! |
![]() We rented a pedal car to tour the lagoon and to provide Grant a leaping platform. |
![]() Our last evening was spent dancing our cares away to a selection of Turkish artists-- and ABBA! |
That's all, folks! Click here to get back to the home page. |
