INTRODUCTION

I have always found the process of turning a 2-D image on a piece of paper into a 3-D piece of furniture rather stimulating. And when you add an ever-increasing desire, to use the continually expanding variety of timbers available from around the world, your imagination only limits you to what can be achieved. This is why I formed JD Furniture & Design in 2000, so I could pursue and develop this passion further.

A formal apprenticeship in furniture making was the starting point, covering concept and design with traditional construction methods. Over the next thirty years, I gained knowledge and experience of all aspects of the woodworking industry.

The timbers I specialise in using to create my furniture are mainly home grown and European certificated hardwoods, obtained from sustainable-renewable sources of well-managed forests. These include Oak, Beech, Ash, Cherry, Sycamore and Sweet Chestnut, as well as North American Maple, Tulipwood, Cherry, Black Walnut and White Oak. Other timbers are offered on request.
