I have been travelling the world since childhood when a DC3 to the Middle East took 4 days! Airports had no lights and runways were lit by oil drums filled with sand and Kerosene which were lit if weather conditions were deteriorating or if the plane was delayed and the landing was in semi-dark.

My father was with Iraq Petroleum Company and so at the age of 8 I was sent to The Junior School, Nicosia (a boarding school in Cyprus) as there were no schools in Iraq for ex-pats. After two years I moved to Dore & Totley High School in Sheffield, Yorkshire and after another year I was moved again to St. Brandon's School, Clevedon, Somerset where I remained for 5 years.

After school I was hoping to go to RADA but my mother had other ideas and I was sent to St. Godric's Secretarial College, Hampstead. I married in my mid-20s and had one daughter, Sarah.

I've lived a very nomadic life moving from Derbyshire, Yorkshire, London, Kent, Bristol, Somerset and Cornwall as well as the Middle East. I've owned Chy an Gof since 1985 however in 1989 my daughter asked me to join her in Abu Dhabi. I thought I was going for 3 months holiday but I stayed for 12 years working for various organisations including British Petroleum, Shell, Higher Colleges of Technology and finally, 9 years with ZADCO (a subsidiary of ADNOC the UAE government oil company).

In 2000 the people who were renting my home moved and the time seemed right to return to Cornwall. I returned early 2001 and since my return I have been busy restoring my house in keeping with the period in which it was built (1829). There are still a few more projects I have in mind but I am now taking great pleasure in welcoming guests to my lovely home.

I have friends from most countries and cultures in the world and I am looking forward to making more friends from those who decide to visit me in this wonderful part of Cornwall.

I hope you will enjoy looking at the various pages on my web site from lacemaking to family history and some of the photos from the fascinating places I have visited from Abu Dhabi to Yorkshire, Europe to the Far East.

On my return from Abu Dhabi life would not have been the same if my two friends Katie and Tosca had not joined me in Cornwall. Thanks to Kay van der Meer in Holland we obtained passports for them and they spent 6 months in Amersfoort rather than going into quarantine. Katie and Tosca loved the guests (sadly Tosca has since died). Katie is not allowed in the guests rooms or the dining room.
