PETE CASTLE - Albums and books

MEARCSTAPA by PETE CASTLE

The latest solo album from Pete. Released in October 1999.

MATS022CD price £10.00 cassette £7.00 and book.

FALSE WATERS by PETE CASTLE
A solo album from Pete with Lucy Castle, fiddle and chorus vocals; Sue Castle, chorus vocals; Alyson Walker, chorus vocals and flat foot dancing; Peter Wimpenny, clarinet; and Popeluc. It`s based solidly in the English tradition but it bears references to work Pete has been doing outside the folk scene in schools, on community projects and with musicians from other disciplines and other cultures. It has been enthusiastically greeted:- "This is a lovely album." (Tim Moon: Tykes News )
CD only MATS O12CD price £10.00

PETE CASTLE 'EXTRACTED'
a.k.a One Morning at the Cottage
This new cassette album replaces three(!) of Pete's previous albums which have all sold out. Rather than get more of each done he has selected his favourite tracks to compile this 'best of'. There is a good selection of music played solo and with various accompanists.
Tape only. MATS015 price £7.00

TWO TONGUES ONE VOICE: Pete Castle & Aroti Biswas
Aroti's work on Pete's now deleted `One Morning By Chance` album aroused a lot of interest as did the duo's few live performances before Aroti's untimely death. This sample of their work together is culled from demos and radio sessions. "There are some inspiring moments here especially '2 Magicians' and Castle's own 'Dark Eyed Girl'" (Rock'n'Reel )
Tape MATS009 price £3.00

POPELUC - Albums, books and videos

'BLUE DOR'
POPELUC, a multi-ethnic group made up of Ioan Pop, Pete Castle and Lucy Castle-Hotea, play a unique mixture of the traditional musics of their homelands - Transylvania and England. This is their third album and it combines tracks recorded in an English studio with others captured 'in the field' at parties in Transylvania. "With its blend of Romanian and English folk elements and its wild energy this makes for very enjoyable listening and dancing, every time you play it. One for my top 10 of 1996" ( PA Spins )

LIVE at PEBBLE MILL
An 8-track mini-album by the group based around a live session recorded by the BBC.

PEAK TO PEAK The video of the 1997 tour.
Popeluc received Lottery funding to help with this tour and to produce the video. It includes professional footage of the final concert with the Opanka dance group plus bits shot at various other venues throughout the tour including the Weald and Downland Museum in Sussex, Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire and Belper Folk Festival (these last two with Nutbrook dancers). There is also an interview by Richard Walker and fascinating background film of Maramures, the home of much of the group's music.

THE POPELUC GUIDE TO TRANSYLVANIA
