| Visitor will
be conducted through the mine workings by
experienced guides who will explain and
demonstrate the methods used by the miners to
drive their exploratory levels in search of lead
veins, and show various items of lead mining
machinery and equipment. There is also an
unworked vein of galena visible.
The history
of the mine will be related and examples of
herring - bone arching, wood and stone stemples,
winzes, sumps, and raises can be seen, also
several examples of climbing aids used by "t'owd
man".
Display areas
show visitors examples of old tools, implements,
and artefacts, which have been found in the mine
workings during restoration.
On the
surface, visitors can inspect restored miners'
coes, ore dressing floors, powder magazine, tip
and wagon tippler, buddles, jigging machine, and
other items associated with a lead mine.
Access to the
Goodluck Mine is strictly by appointment only.
Educational groups are welcome.
Safety
helmets, electric hand - lamps, (and some times
candles !), are provided, but visitors are
strongly advised to wear warm out door clothing
and strong waterproof footwear, as conditions
underfoot can sometimes be very wet and muddy !
The standard
visitor route is about 1/4 mile into the mine
workings, and takes about 1 1/4 hours for the
round trip. A maximum of 12 visitors only can be
taken underground at any time. There is covered
accommodation on the surface for visitors waiting
to go into the mine.
