Our 'A' team has won the Lanarkshire League Championship. In a crunch match against nearest rivals East Kilbride 'A' (see report below) we took the points required to bring the title to Lanark for the first time since 1981.

LANARK 'A'
On 18 March we were visited by East Kilbride 'A' in a key match in the Lanarkshire League championship. We needed to win this match to clinch the title, East Kilbride needed a win to bring them within one point of us and keep their own title hopes alive.
Unfortunately for the visitors they were a player short because of illness and defaulted board four, giving us a point of a start. The three games played were all close affairs but eventually Jim Smalls, whose performance in the Lanarkshire League this season has been exceptional, won and Brian Walls and Ian McLachlan both drew giving us a 3 - 1 victory.
Team captain Ian Brownlee opened a bottle of bubbly and the club members had a small drink to celebrate the occasion.

LANARK 'B'
Lanark 'B' played what might be their final match of the season at Home to Hamilton 'B'.
This was probably the strongest Lanark 'B' team that has been put together this season, with Maurice Benyon, John Henderson, Scott Main and George Brown all featuring. There were wins for Maurice, Scott and George but John, with a draw looking likely, overpressed and eventually lost. Nevertheless, a 3 - 1 win was a good result.
