Christmas fun night
On Monday 17 December we held our traditional Christmas fun night, a five minute tournament involving all the club members, both adult and junior, with small prizes for the winners. Unfortunately there was a clash with a Lanarkshire League match so four of the senior players were not available for the tournament.
The winner of the tournament was club champion Alex Mitchell, who scored an unbeaten five out of five. Maurice Benyon and Bernard Airlie were joint runners up on four points. The best junior performance was by Liam Nicholson who had to leave before his last round game but who scored three out of four, losing only to Alex Mitchell.
Before one of the games a junior asked his senior opponent if he knew the four move checkmate, which of course the experienced player did. The junior then proceeded to win the game in half a dozen moves. The defeat was taken in good part by the senior and the junior player was delighted with his win.
