annual general meeting
The 2006-2007 chess season has ended and last night we held our AGM and presentation of prizes.
This year's Club Champion is Alex Mitchell, who wins the championship for the twelfth time. Top junior, winning the Hunter Kennedy Shield, is Christopher Graham, an excellent achievement in his first year as a club member. Both were presented with their trophies at the AGM.

2006-2007 was another successful competitive season for the Club. In the Lanarkshire League the 'A' team were again runners up by the very narrowest of margins to Hamilton 'A' (see report in the News section [Lanarkshire League - April matches]), while the 'B' team finished in the middle of the table. The junior team played in the new Lanarkshire Primary League this year and, although finding the competition tough, did creditably well.
In our second season in the National League we had hoped to win promotion to Division 2 but didn't perform as well in this competition as we did in others and again finished in mid table.
We entered the Spens Cup again this year, the last year it will be held in its traditional form, and did very well. We got to the final where we met Glenrothes, a very strong team and Cup winners last year. The team played above itself but we just failed to pull off a famous victory.
In general terms the club is in good health. Adult membership has remained steady but we have fewer junior members than we've had in the past. It is hoped that our activities in schools will stimulate interest next season and beyond.
The office bearers for next season are - President, Ian McLachlan; Secretary, Tom Brown; Treasurer, Bernard Airlie; Competitions Secretary, Ian Brownlee. These office bearers make up the club's management committee.
