glasgow congress
Three adult members of the club played in the Glasgow Chess Congress over the weekend of 3rd to 5th November and one junior played in the one day tournament on the Sunday. Tom Donohue played in the Open, Jim Smalls and Ian McLachlan in the Major and Liam Nicholson in the one day event.
Jim Smalls continued his superb run of results in recent weekend congresses by winning the Major tournament outright with four wins and a draw, giving him 4½ points, ½ point ahead of his nearest rivals. Most of Jim's games were exciting, complex, highly tactical affairs, including one Frankenstein Dracula variation of the Vienna, see Game 25 on the games page of this site.
Although not amongst the prizes the club's other participants did reasonably well, all scoring around 50%.
The last round gets under way.
