A friend of mine organises an annual jazz festival in Switzerland. I'm afraid it is a subject I know nothing about! He has asked me to find addresses for a number of bands or their agents and I am struggling with any contact details for the Monty Sunshine Jazz Band. If you were able to point me in the right direction I would be most grateful. Many ThanksKen Beech

Fred, I have an LP of "The Legendary NFJO Concert", at the Royal Festival Hall on 14 July 1951, with Humphrey Lyttelton's Band, The Saints, Graeme Bell's Band, Joe Daniels, The Crane River, & Freddy Randall. Was this ever issued as a CD? If anyone knows the answer, I'd be delighted to hear from them. Keep on jazzin' Regards Geoff Brooks

I feel compelled to tell everyone that prompted by the What's on page I visited Didsbury Cricket Club last Sat to hear an absolutely brilliant young band called Bourbon Kick. The talent, musicianship and professionalism of all these young guys is a breath of fresh air to the traditional jazz scene. They swing like crazy (Phil Mason/Black Eagles rolled into one!)This was apparently only their second gig as a band. Long may they continue, and if you get the chance,go and see them. You won't be disappointed. Cheers, Phil.

Great work. I'm a hard core classic New Olreans clarinetist (ameteur). In the USA today there's not much of the real, except Preservation Hall and Woody Allen (thank God for his authentic style!). Dug the jazz clubs in London 1951 when I was still a square. I've taken it from there. Think it would be a gas to record one day with the Brit Bob Hall (piano): "Bob Hall meets Bob Hall" (Ha!). Cheers.

I am pleased to record an interesting event at the Little Brighton pub in New Brighton 2nd September.Baron Bert Von Schroeder(he of "Tales of Woe" fame) sat in with the Mathew St.Band on his 80 year old absolutely HUGE American sousaphone. The monster in question performed excellently, although neighbouring premises later reported slight subsidence, and a rather inebriated punter complained to the landlord when he couldn't get it to flush !!
Did he play a 'W.C'. Handy number Phil?

I recently discovered this link from the Cape Cod list of Trad Bands around the World. Please pass on our best regards to all our friends down in the Northwest, especially John Rothwell..I wondered where he got to!..from Kenny and Violet and The Spirits of Rhythm. We have now got a Jazz Club operating so if any of your bands are prepared to travel tell them to get in touch.
Your message was passed on to John.

Thanks for helping me re-discover Traditional Jazz again after many years! I never realised there was so much out there until I came across your website. There are many bands and venues here in the North West and I am now re-aquainting myself with them. It's good to see some of the original bands (almost) intact with the original personnel, and best of all, still producing great music.
Thank you kind sir

As a musician and band leader myself I must applaud your efforts. If only I or someone like you had the desire to do something for the Midland's Traditional Jazz scene - perhaps they have but I have not found it yet! Well done.
Thanks Graham, give my regards to The Eagle and Zenith Hot Stompers
