When first posted, this whole sequence of pages talked about 'teachers'. To quote Martin Baker (Aston 1961), writing in 2008: "They'd turn over in their graves if they heard you refer to them as such. They were 'Masters', and were so even in my day." Of course, Martin is right: I just hope their female successors will forgive us!
