Minor discovery
A visit to the Foundation's Archive Centre enabled me to check on a sneaking suspicion that I have had for some time.
Sure enough, it was borne out. For years I had thought Temperley's first name was Joseph. It was John. Oh well, that makes a second edition of 'Big School' all the more necessary! Apologies to all those of you who bought a copy of the now incorrect first edition.
Dateline: Sunday 29th June 2008
Another reunion!
L. to R.: Jim Perkins, John Donnelly, Gary Tibbles, Jim Parker, John Parker.
Jim Parker's annual 'bash' saw four of his contemporaries converge on his Warwickshire home, including brother John (Aston 1953) from his home in Hong Kong. The numbers may have been smaller than in previous years, but the reminiscent juices were flowing so freely that we nearly outstayed our welcome!
The choice of location for the above photo was changed following complaints about that of last year's!
Dateline: Sunday 22nd June 2008
'Mini' reunion at Sutton Coldfield
L. to R.: Dave Sinclair, Selby Betts, Peter Cross, Ken Smith, Dennis Herdman, Chris Williams, Derek Kershaw, Peter Band.
Nine of us gathered for a reunion, organised by Peter Cross, at New Hall, Sutton Coldfield.
Apart from the 'usual suspects', it was a great pleasure to meet, for the first time in 50 + years, Derek Kershaw who had made the journey from his home in Somerset.
Apart from lunch, Peter managed to get us a tour of the older part of the hotel, and we can be seen above in the Great Hall.
Dateline: Tuesday 27th May 2008
His last Munro
Peter Hay, from the 'Class of 1950', climbed his 284th, and last, 'Munro' (a Scottish mountain over 3000ft), Beinn Dorain, on 19th April this year.
He climbed his first, Ben More near Crianlarich, in August 1953, accompanied by AOEs Ken Smith and Jym Scott.
Many congratulations, Peter!
