| Notes: Created in AceDXF but then imported into OPTech
to have Level-of-Detail settings/parts. This was the first fighter I ever did with all
three OPTs (Base, Cockpit, and Exterior) and in some ways
it shows in the cockpit. The cockpit does look better
with the software texture coordinates zeroed but it is
still rather plain compared with other XWAU craft and
could do with some modification to have extra detail. |

C-3 Passenger Liner |
|
|
Description: One of the most commonly found commercial cruise liners. |
| Source: X-Wing Alliance | |
| Stats: 420 m long 320 SBD Shields 752 RU Hull |
|
| COMPARISON | |
| Notes: Created in OPTech by importing 3DS via 3DS2OPZ. I had decided to do some modelling to try to cheer myself up a little and when the Passenger Liner was mentioned in the XWAU private forum I decided to have a go. The model was going to serve as a useful test of some ideas and I planned to do it quite quickly, even turning down an offer to have it textured. |
|
| Things did not turn out
that way though as I ended up doing a considerable amount
of work on the website guides, making the Dominator
Interdictor model (which also proved useful for testing
things with), and testing those things when I used Ganks
excellent textures to produce the M/TRN OPT. After a series of false starts on trying to get the look of the textures right I finally managed to get it done. |

![]() |
Description: Admiral Ackbars flagship at the Battle of Endor which continued in service until after the assassination of Grand Admiral Thrawn (was last mentioned in Isards Revenge). |
| Source: Pictures of the model found on SWTC | |
| Status: Old OPT available in Ultimate Craft Patch. Plans for revision made. | |
| Stats: 3.8 km long 10 Squadrons 32864 SBD Shields 17408 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Old OPT created in AceDXF, therefore no
Level-of-Detail settings or parts. Some people call this Home One, some people say that was simply her callsign during the Battle of Endor and her actual name is Independence. Personal feeling is that this ship is Home One and Akbars personal cruiser (mentioned in Truce at Bakura) is the Independence, and that even if I am wrong about that I would still be advised to follow the example of Michael A. Stackpole and Aaron Allston and use the name Home One. |
|
| I actually created the
MC-104 because I heard that Home One was a
unique ship and I wanted to have a similar ship where I
could have more than one of them (and then in stories for
the SFA I ended up having the Odysseus be the
only ship of her class for a long time anyway). However
careful examination of the Battle of Endor showed that
one of the starships atomised by the second Death Star
was very likely another "Home One" as
it had pods-on-fins protruding from its upper hull. I was quite pleased with this OPT initially as I
had taken quite a lot of care with the textures to make
them complex and accurate. Unfortunately due to the
method I used to apply these textures there was some
quite severe texture joins and texture streakies, both of
which were criticised with vigour by Saxman. There was
also a problem with the nose where from the side it
looked curved, from directly above it looked curved, but
from the side and above (sort of 45 degree angle) it
looked rather nastily pointed. |

Modified Action Transport |
|
![]() |
Description: Medium bulk freighter modified to enhance its durability and cargo accommodations. |
| Source: X-Wing Alliance and textures supplied by Gank | |
| Stats: 124 m long 220 SBD Shields 152 RU Hull |
|
| COMPARISON | |
| Notes: Created in OPTech by importing 3DS via 3DS2OPZ. There was a thread on Shading Problems at the XWAU in which Gank posted screenshots of a Bulk Cruiser, Stormtrooper Transport, and a Modified Action Transport. Since this had been a ship I had considered doing when Gank said the M/TRN was not salvageable I enquired about using the textures. |
|
| Although the original model did not have the same severe shading problems on my system as it hasd on Ganks the original model was rather simple as it had been created by Zeelich for Homeworld and so I remodelled most of the ship using Ganks excellent textures for reference. This extra detail in the model enhanced the textures nicely and made this rather a satisfactory OPT, although I confess to wishing more of the attractiveness was down to my model rather than Ganks textures. | |

Bulwark-II Flag Cruiser |
|
![]() |
Description: Non-canon super-heavy starship created to serve as the Flagship of the New Republic (in the storyline created for the Starfighters Alliance). |
| Source: Imagination based on Rebellion/Supremacy Bulwark Battlecruiser | |
| Stats: 4.9 km long 10 Squadrons 84922 SBD Shields 40096 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Created in AceDXF, therefore no Level-of-Detail
settings or parts. When I first played Rebellion / Supremacy I didn't build a Bulwark Battlecruiser for several games and when I did build one I was very surprised that what I'd thought was mainly foreshortening in the encyclopaedia picture wasn't, the ship really was that short, wide, and deep. |
|
| I made a MAX model (not a
very good one) since I needed that for a cutscene of my
BoP Campaign but simply didn't like the designs
proportions. Therefore when it was proposed that the
flagship of the SFA New Republic should be a Bulwark I
did my best to convince them that it should be a
"Bulwark-II", and I succeeded. Some months later Nob Akimoto asked for a DXF of that model and once some initial confusion was cleared up I set about making my first ever OPT which compared with the present version was absolutely hideous. |

Dauntless Cruiser |

Description: The intermediate class of ship between the generic Mon Calamari Cruiser and the Bulwark Battlecruiser in Rebellion / Supremacy. |
| Source: Rebellion / Supremacy | |
| Stats: (Guesstimates) 2.3 km long 7 Squadrons 7888 SBD Shields 3696 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Created in AceDXF, therefore no Level-of-Detail
settings or parts. When I revised the MAX file version of this ship that I had available on my previous site (on my old ISP) I decided to also revise the OPT and was surprised at how smoothly it went. I was able to resize and reuse some of the textures and even some of the model parts. As I was guessing the stats and size anyway I decided to make it a little larger and more powerful than the previous OPT to make it more distinct from the Calamari Cruisers, though still more of an intermediate between a MC-80 and Home One than between a MC-80 and a Bulwark. |

Dominator
Interdictor |
|
| Description: A modification of the Imperial Star Destroyer spaceframe to mount gravity well generators on a much more combat effective ship than the Immobiliser Interdictor, thus allowing her to operate without requiring support ships. | |
| Source: Rogue Squadron: The Phantom Affair, Rogue Squadron: Mandatory Retirement, some imagination in reconciling pictures, Matts ISD-I for some guidance in proportions, pictures and diagrams from SWTC of the ISD and ISD-II to fill in some blanks. | |
| Stats: 1.6 km long 3-4 Squadrons 4096 SBD Shields 2160 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Created in OPTech by importing 3DS via 3DS2OPZ. Some areas of excess shading, but not too bad. It was apparent from the first screenshots of Matts XWAU ISD in the private forum that the Dominator Interdictor would need to be redone as TG had made quite a serious mistake with the ISDs general proportions, their model was a lot narrower and deeper than it should be, and in trusting that as a guide I had therefore given the D/INT the same incorrect proportions. |
|
| Unfortunately in trying to
add a lot of the details I wanted to model rather than
just have as texture I went too far and found that the
resulting model both was very high in facecount (for an
OPT) since I had been merging meshes together to avoid
problems with XWA's display of where the joins were and
which face was in front of which. Problems also arose
with shading appearing between the co-planar faces
created by having merged details and meshes together. After some testing, some fiddling, and finding that splitting the model between seperate OPTech projects and calculating the Vertex Normals seperately minimised the excess shading I decided it was worth texturing and making the full OPT. |

Eclipse-II Super Star Destroyer |
|

Description: The significantly different replacement flagship for the supposed Emperor-reborn |
| Source: Empires End | |
| Stats: 16km long Many many many Squadrons 768000 SBD Shields 365696 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Created in AceDXF, therefore no Level-of-Detail
settings or parts. This is one of the strangest ships at SWTC (I have the comic as well), not because it is a particularly strange design but just because Dr.Cutis Saxton has quite a number of ships or vehicles which could be considered as simply a difference in how an artist has drawn something rather than actually being a different design. He even has a pair of "new designs" where the artist was illustrating an event from the novel Darksaber and so we know those were meant to be ISD-IIs. When it comes to something as different as this though (see note) he only has one type of Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer. |
|
| The OPT was a little
disappointing in as much as I made rather a mess of the
hangar which was really far too large to only have one
texture on a wall. In considering how to solve the rather
small hangar openings by providing a pair of launch tubes
leading into this much bigger hangar, and of having the
"barrel" of the axial-superlaser visible along
the roof, I forgot to consider that in a ship as huge as
this how large the hangar would be. If I was going to redo or tweak this I would definitely model the dorsal/ventral plating rather than simply having this as texture. |

Giels SSD |
|
|
Description: The command ship on which Admiral Giel conveyed a unique creature with the ability to increase the speed of hyperspace communications and from which Admiral Giel commanded a huge escorting armada (see notes) |
| Source: Marvel Star Wars comic pictures found on SWTC. | |
| Stats: 6.95 km long 12 Squadrons 87000 SBD Shields 48000 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Created in AceDXF, therefore no Level-of-Detail
settings or parts. The creature was rendered extinct by the Rebel Alliance through the use of stolen TIE Fighters as they felt that their cause was more important than the life of a presumably non-sentient creature, even one which was the only example of its species. The death throes of the creature were literally explosive and this explosion devastated (and almost certainly) destroyed this starship. |
|
| This OPT is by no means
the best that I have done, and it has a few problems
(hence it not being chosen to be part of the Ultimate
Craft Patch), but it is good enough to deserve to remain
available (if only in part as some extra padding on this
page). The OPT suffered from what I call the Venetian-Blind effect where XWA gets confused as to which of two faces should be displayed in front of which and ends up interweaving stripes of one with stripes of the other. I solved this problem by moving vertices in AceDXF to give greater clearance between the hull and the detailing but this resulted in the detailing becoming rather too chunky. If I were to update it then I would accept the facecount penalty and Boolean-Merge the hull and hull detailing together, since as this is a Star Destroyer the extra faces/vertices would not be a vast number (see OPT making guide). In some ways the main reason I can see for using this OPT would be that if you have replaced the 8km TG SSD with a correctly scaled 17.6km SSD then for missions which require a ship roughly equivalent to the 8km SSD Giels SSD can be used. |

MC-75
Barracuda |
|
![]() |
Description: Non-canon New Republic cruiser designed to be equivalent to the Imperial Victory class Star Destroyers. |
| Source: Imagination based on picture at SWTC. | |
| Stats: 1.0 km long 2 Squadrons 3200 SBD Shields 1350 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Created in AceDXF, therefore no Level-of-Detail
settings or parts. This cruiser was originally based on one of the MC-80 designs seen at SWTC, but I felt that another cruiser of the same size would not add much to the game so I decided to make it smaller and create a backstory about how the Empire had been continuing to use and construct VSD-IIs which would be too expensive to match ship-for-ship with a larger design. In the revision from version 1 of the OPT to version 2 I then decided to make it considerably slenderer, lessening the resemblance to the original design still further. |
|
| The blue/blue-green colour
scheme proved quite popular which is ironic as it was
partially an accident, I was going to make the MC-75
blue/white but it looked rather too like a Minbari
cruiser (Babylon 5) so I adjusted the colour balance on
the textures and it came out rather well. Some texture streaking but acceptable. |

MC-80a
Chatnoir |
|
|
Description: A New Republic cruiser which was (with the MC-80b) an intermediate design between the passenger-liner conversion MC-80 class and the purpose designed warship MC-90 class (see notes). |
| Source: X-Wing: Alliance | |
| Stats: 1.3 km long 3 Squadrons 4400 SBD Shields 2400 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Created in AceDXF, therefore no Level-of-Detail
settings or parts. When XWA was released Totally Games included a new design for their Calamari Cruiser model, however this design did not fit with events seen in Return of the Jedi as the only thing it resembled (and resembled strongly) was Home One, which was a far larger ship, rather than one of the smaller cruiser designs. |
|
| I had made a fairly
detailed model of this design for pictures and cutscenes
and so when I realised that I could use a higher
facecount than I had previously assumed (confusing the
limit on the number of error messages AceDXF could
display warning me that a face still had the default
texture with the number of faces I could use) I used that
model as a basis for a test OPT. In my success I did two things, firstly I ensured that I would have to spend a long time redoing all the Starship OPTs I had created to that point (which was a fair number as the simpler models had been fast to do and texture, and I hadn't worked to a very high standard when creating the textures) and secondly I helped provoke the beginning of the XWAU. Since part of the XWAU was to replace the TG Calamaris with those seen in Return of the Jedi I was therefore free to create a small backstory for this design of cruiser and make the class-name be the same as the cruiser of this sort that a Role-Play character of mine was commanding (which had been why I'd created the first model). Some visible texture joins and streaking but acceptable. |

Mon-Remonda |
|
![]() |
Description: A unique (I think I read somewhere) Calamari Cruiser which was eaten by a World Devastator between panels in Dark Empire, which after playing a major role in defeating Warlord Zsinji was rather an anti-climactic end. |
| Source: Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels (picture on Internet) | |
| Stats: 1.2 km long 4 Squadrons 4592 SBD Shields 2704 RU Hull |
|
| Notes: Created in AceDXF, therefore no Level-of-Detail
settings or parts. The specifications for this cruiser were rendered rather in dispute by Aaron Allston when he had Mon Remonda going toe to toe with the Super Star Destroyer Iron Fist as although Warlord Zsinji always had a distinct advantage over General Solo it never seemed to be by as much as would be expected. The length of the ship had been stated though and so the rest of the stats and the number of guns on the OPT came from that. |
|
| The model for this is acceptable and so are the textures. I quite like the effect I managed to achieve with the swirlies on the hull though the panel lines could be better and due to this OPT having been created in AceDXF so could some of the texture mapping. | |

| Notes: Old OPT created in AceDXF, therefore no
Level-of-Detail settings or parts. Another OPT that looks better than the facecount and the number of textures would have suggested. I did think of just enhancing the textures as an update but on looking closer at the OPT I decided that, even if most of the detail in the textures was my own invention, that it would be better to enhance the model with more detail as well. |

Reef Home |
|
![]() |
Description: Also known as the Anonymous Pearly Wingless (see notes) this was the most common Calamari Cruiser seen at the Battle of Endor. Being less massive than the Liberty and having an extra thruster this is a fast cruiser. |
| Source: Pictures of the model found on SWTC (during construction and during use in the film) combined with elements from pictures of the Liberty (which used same hull) to fill in the areas which were not shown in pictures of Reef Home. | |
| Status: This at present is a working OPT with mostly
placeholder textures. No bugs have been reported and I
have played several missions of the XWA campaign with the
Reef Home class Defiance present. However I have decided to export the OPT as a 3DS and use Boolean-Union on it to avoid the rather nasty edge-wobble and then recreate the OPT with this modified model. |
|
| Notes: V.2.0 Created in OPTech by importing a OBJ with texture mapping set up. V.2.5 will be created in OPTech by converting a 3DS with 3DSOPZ. | |
| One of the earliest XWAU
OPTs completed was Reef Home, followed by Liberty,
but thankfully these were never released (though they did
escape) as they are absolute crap. I had made some quite
serious mistakes with both models and even if I hadn't
they were far below the standard that Darksaber and Decoy
would set. This has been stuck as an OPT with placeholder textures for quite some time so as I have failed to do the proper textures I decided to take up an offer of having some textures done. I decided though to modify the model through the use of Boolean-Union to avoid the rather bad edge-wobble I discovered and take the opportunity to rename all the placeholder textures (which would be being replaced) to 8.3 format so I could use 3DSOPZ since it had been so horrible reapplying textures to all those faces in OPTech. |

Liberty |
|
![]() |
Description: Although the Liberty herself suffered the fate of being used as an example of the second Death Stars firepower (along with a sister ship of Home One) there are still examples of this type in service. Slower than the Reef Home design due to the loss of an engine and the addition of wings the Liberty class does have superior firepower, especially against enemy capital ships. |
| Source: Pictures of the model found on SWTC (during construction, in use in the film, and from an Exhibition which showed how the model looked under "normal" lighting rather than the strange lighting in Return of the Jedi which made the Calamaris look muddy blue grey) | |
| Status: This at present is a working OPT with mostly
placeholder textures. No bugs have been reported and I
have played several missions of the XWA campaign with Liberty
present. |
|
| The same applies for this
as for Reef Home, it has also been stuck as an
OPT with placeholder textures for rather a long time and
is going to undergo the same modifications. The TG W/CRS does resemble Liberty more than the CRS Reef Home in as much as the W/CRS does at least have wings and is the correct colour scheme of whitish with orange swirlies. It is still strange though that TG decided to give their W/CRS only four engines, make it much fatter, change the arrangement of the bulges, and so forth, as it would have been just as easy to at least make something with the correct proportions. |

Vigilance |

Description: A light fast Imperial design of fighter seen approximately 6 years after the Battle of Endor, but seen flying for the Rebel Alliance (as the New Republic had temporarily renamed itself) thanks to some having been diverted into Rebel hands. |
| Source: Dark Empire | |
| Status: Some plans for revision made. | |
| Notes: This doesn't actually look that bad considering how low the facecount is and how old the OPT is. It could do with a little more detail even on the base OPT though and the textures could do with some tweaking to make the markings a little more weathered and the shading/panel lines more realistic and complex. | |
MC-90
Defiance |
|
![]() |
Description: The first purpose-built Calamari warship (as opposed to the earlier passenger liner conversions) which entered service shortly after Grand Admiral Thrawn was assassinated. |
| Source: Dark Empire | |
| Status: Old OPT available in Ultimate Craft Patch. Most of plans for revision made. | |
| Notes: Old OPT created in AceDXF, therefore no
Level-of-Detail settings or parts. The model is an acceptable one though the textures are rather plain as in the one picture available the artist (Cam Kennedy) had simply coloured it smooth and blue and I had not been inventive in my interpretation of this. There is also a problem where for some reason the shading between the top and bottom of the main hull can be rather abrupt because AceDXF does not smooth across coincident vertices in seperate meshes. |
|
