Delorean DMC-12 Two Seater Sports Coupe

The Delorean car was a concept by John.Zachary Delorean to build an "Ethical Sports car" which would last for 25 years.

John Delorean's idea is much like Henry Ford's ....to have a vehicle that will last without having to change it every year.
The car was to be strong but safe with "safety" being a major part of the design brief.
He planned to take the Automotive industry .......and turn it on it's head.
At the time many believed the result missed this goal but nearly 25 years later most of the cars are still cruising around.

The car plant," from a green field site to full production" was in record time and the workers put everything they had into building them.
Ex General Motors Big shot, John Delorean had made it happen with large amounts of financial backing from GB and the USA.
The market for the car was aimed at "The bachelor who's made it" with room in the back for a set of golf clubs.
The "DSV" soon became the DMC-12 and the production began

Hype fuelled sales and for a while the car outsold GM.
But priced in the same ball park as Porsche and Mercedes it sadly fell short of its targets after the initial hype the sales lulled.
The production run lasted 3 years until the factory was closed with Debts in 1983
The Delorean Motor Company still had acheived more than anyone really thought possible in a very small amount of time.

John Delorean was no slouch either,
to this day he still holds the record for car sales at General Motors.
He is also credited for being the man who designed the first muscle car .......The Pontiac GTO

If anyone was going to make it happen it was John Delorean,
With the help of Lotus to provide reality to the project and a fair few trips back and forward to New York via concorde it all came together.

The car parts are still available and with certain modifications to some parts they have made most problems a thing of the past.
Owners across the globe enjoy the cars and even customise them further with colour changes,re-trimmed leather and huge wheels or sound systems.

The cars have spanned the decades and are still giving pleasure to their owners despite the changing fashions and cultures.
These great cars really are the automotive equivalent .........of STATUS QUO!

The car interior was always comfortable and the leather seats are very supportive.
The controls are are to hand and laid out much the same way as the Lotus Esprit which shared a few ideas!

Once the doors are down it feels solid and reassuring ,even if the visability around is only moderate.
7 Setting Climate Control and Air Conditioning make the experience even better.

All Delorean cars have Alloy wheels which are wider track on ther rear than the front.

The original Good Year tyres are no longer available but replacements in other brands cause no problems.

The weight distribution is 35 % front and 65% rear due to the rear engined layout.

All Delorean cars have Independent suspension

The V6 Engine was a proven stock engine used to save time with design and emissions regulations.
But the engine is far from Bad,it is in fact very reliable and heavily used in racing cars.
It has a Bosch K Jetronic fuel Injection system and is an overhead cam design.
The fuel economy is low to middle twenties and was one of the first cars to run only on unleaded as it has a cat.

Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox in cameo shot from Fox network's "Spin City" But as large as the advertising campaigns were ....
No one can deny that "Marty" and "Doc Brown" brought the car to the masses.
The tempremental antics of a Nuclear time travelling Delorean that can fly has bought us humour and raised awareness of the car.
The trilogy is complete now but many fans still right letters demanding BTTF IV

But that's in the FUTURE!
