attractors, their chaotic properties as well as their artistic
value. Some core features (especially the Attractor Search) and
equations available in Chaoscope were found in his book "Strange
Attractors: Creating Patterns in Chaos". Software

The first author's visit to this page back
in 1995 initiated the Chaoscope project. Tim Stilson proved strange
attractors could be rendered as solid objects in a very efficient
way. The method (on which the Chaoscope solid rendering is based)
is explained here.

Paul and his friend John
Holder followed Tim Stilson's path and wrote a program
that renders solid
3D strange attractors. Paul is also the creator of PovChem which
renders complex molecules - including DNA - in 3D. |

A free software is available for download. The result is similar
to what Chaoscope can produce with IFS in Light rendering, bearing

Created by Mark Townsend, Apophysis is the most
popular Flames editor around, probably because its interface,
although simple, allows the user to create astonishingly beautiful
pictures. It is a freeware, its source code is published under
GPL license. |

XenoDream |
||
|
XenoDream is an advanced IFS editor. It can use
primitives instead of points for each component (called "holon" in
XenoDream) and includes a complex lighting system. The pictures
galleries are a must see. XenoDream is a software created
by Garth Thornton and Virginia Sterling. |

Ultra Fractal |

Grand-son of FractINT, shareware, adds features
such as true-colour rendering, anti-aliasing, Photoshop-like
layers, multi-threading and multi-project environment. |

Iterations et Flarium24 |
||
|
Not just two but a set of fractal programs :
Iterations, Flarium24, GrafZVision, Sterlingware, InkBlot...
They all require a bit of practice before obtaining good results,
but the time spent on Stephen Ferguson's programs is always rewarding.
Software is available for download for
a small subscription fee. |

ChaosPro |
||
ChaosPro can be considered as a
mix between FractINT for the various file formats compatibility
(formula, colour palettes, etc.), Ultra Fractal for the formula
compiler, Frode Gill's Quaternion Generator for the quaternion
rendering and Iterations/Flarium24 for the complex rendering
modes, to which it adds real time fractal modification and a
nifty animation module. ChaosPro is a freeware created by Martin
Pfingstl.
