Wessex News Release
July 1997
Representing Hampshire and Isle of Wight, local man
William Trend has just returned from the 4th
International Convention of Natural Law Parties held this
year in Bonn, Germany 17th - 21st July. Over 1000
delegates from over 60 countries, including Russia and
other members of the former Soviet Union, attended.
The major theme of the conference was security in
Europe and the potential for increased tension and
continental destabilisation as a result of the proposed
expansion of NATO to include the former Soviet satellite
states of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.
Announced at the convention was an initiative by Lt
Colonel Gunter Chasse, a former German Army Officer with
over 40 years military service, to establish a Vedic
(consciousness based) Peace Corps of 500 Yogic Flyers in
each of the 16 German states including Berlin itself. The
groups are to be formed by young unemployed and will be
funded by local businesses to whom appeals are currently
being made.
An issue for every region of Europe
Although such groups are vital in Germany because of
its central location in Europe similar initiatives are
about to get underway in all European States, according
to Mr Treend. Presentations on this issue were made at
the NATO summit meeting in Madrid earlier in the month to
NATO Secretary General Javier Solana, President of the
Czech Republic Vaclav Havel, and Hungarian President
Gyula Horn.
Mr Treend is now seeking set up the same type of
project locally.
N o Country is safe
"The lack of coherence in the
collective consciousness of Europe is creating a highly
unstable situation despite the end of the cold war, and
the expansion of NATO is likely to create further tension
in relations with Russia. The proposed expansion will
increase the ratio of NATO to Russian troops from 2.8 to
1 to 3.7 to 1 feeding further feelings of insecurity
within Russia and encouraging it to revert back to
reliance on Nuclear strategies. Instability within Russia
itself means that control of Russian defence systems is
no longer under proper political control. In these
circumstances no country is safe and we cannot afford to
take any provocative actions," says Mr Treend.
Reports earlier this year confirmed that Russia came
within three minutes of launching a nuclear attack on the
west in January 1995 due to a break down in
communications within the Russian Military command.

New solutions have to be found
"History is littered with
shattered military alliances. Defence strategies which
are based on fear and exclusion create their own new
tensions ultimately leading to the unleashing of negative
and destructive forces. We can no longer rely on this
approach when todays weapons are so powerful. We
have to find new solutions," adds Mr Treend.
"Fortunately, extensive
scientific research published in some of the worlds
leading scientific journals has confirmed the ability of
large groups of Yogic Flyers to dissolve tensions both
locally and internationally producing falls in crime
levels, improvements in international relations and other
positive indicators of social stability and progress.
"For the first time we now have
the means to guarantee the security of every country
based on the positive effects of creating coherence in
the collective consciousness of each nation, rather than
creating fear and destructive tendencies in neighbouring
states."
Appeal to local businesses
As a result of these initiatives the Natural Law Party
in Wessex is now launching an appeal to local businesses
to sponsor young unemployed people to participate in
creating a Vedic Peace Corps of Yogic Flyers in the
region to ensure that British national security is
maintained on a basis which is both reliable and
unprovocative.

about Yogic Flying)
At this stage it is not too late to cancel the
expansion of NATO and adopt a more positive approach
because the proposal still has to be ratified by the 16
member NATO parliaments including the US Senate.
The Natural Law Party argues that ratification should
not proceed when a more cost effective solution is
available and when financial resources are desperately
needed in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland for
social and economic development. NATO accession would
require substantial military expenditure in these
countries to ensure equipment compatibility with existing
members.
