Radio Five Live - links to London Pool Campaign website where the item is dated November 7th. A six minute feature on 5.11.05 discussed ten water samples taken from unnamed pools around the country and tested for bacteria levels. While none had gross results  ( i.e. would require immediate closure of pool) four did not pass national guidelines. The spokesperson for the company that conducted the tests said that the results were "slightly above the average" for the 1000 or so tests they conducted each year. I learned that regulation of public pools was changed to a voluntary code. How convenient for any contractor who might prefer to cut corners. PB

Private Eye   Reports on LC's latest Chief Executive, Graham Farrant, on LC's performance and Brent selling land used by a sports club for £46K in 1999. The land was soon resold for £780k.

Union Reports  It was one of these reports that first alerted me to the possibility of using the Internet to find out more about LC.

Which? Magazine  More from the June 2002 report on swimming pools and spa pools.

Golden Goggles Awards - LC takes a dive in 2005. Results of a survey by London Pools Campaign.

OFSTED Reports - To find an OFSTED report, e.g. for a leisure centre crèche or children's holiday activities  you need the post code of the centre that you are interested in. Go to http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports/ and enter the post code. If you are having difficulty finding a report for your centre check with http://www.childcarelink.gov.uk/index.asp for contact details of your local Childcare Information Centre and check the details of the centre registration.  LCW is interested to hear of your views on LC childcare, especially as  at least one centre has received an "unsatisfactory" OFSTED report.  vilefirm@btinternet.com
