There is nothing like discretion
and being up to date when it comes to legal representation in tricky
matters.
LC's lawyers are Walker Morris
based in Leeds and these Yorkshire Beagles as of 12 December 2006 feature LC
on their web page touting for "Commercial Dispute Resolution" work.
The site claims
that "recent examples"
of the firm's Commercial Dispute Resolution teamwork includes representing
LC at a public inquiry and acting in relation to its fraught contract with
Hackney Council to run the "ill-fated Clissold Leisure Centre,
which closed months after opening". http://www.walkermorris.co.uk/content.aspx?id=104
Hackney and LC reached their
agreement in July 2005, which resulted in the departure of LC not just form
Clissold but all their other contracts in Hackney. The leisure centre is
still, erm, ill-fated. LC has extricated itself but Hackney's £43 million
investment is still a white elephant. See www.clissoldleisure.com/
for the sordid history.
Can anyone name the public
enquiry that LC sought legal representation at? It may have been some time
ago.
An example of the work of
Walker Morris can be seen on this website. It is
the letter they wrote on behalf of LC seeking to suppress LCW. The letter is
not exactly a model of the level of accuracy and thought-out argument one
might hope for from a firm that claims to know the law "inside out".
