The May 2004 copy of BT Today (for employees) carries a special offer valid till 31 August, reductions at Harpers' Fitness Clubs in the London Area. Included is Willesden Sports Centre. Staff at Willesden told me on 29.4.04 that while there is no specific date yet, the centre is expected to close in June 2004. There is no mention of the expected closure in BT Today. LC's web mentions rebuilding but not the closure. http://willesden.leisureconnection.co.uk/ PB Relaxion Sexual Harassment Case - House of Lords Decision June 2003 from Ms Rhys-Harper was dismissed. She appealed against her dismissal and complained to the employer of sexual harassment which had occurred during her employment. Her appeal and complaint were rejected by her employer. She complained to an employment tribunal that the employer had failed to investigate her complaint properly and that this failure, which took place after her employment had ended, was sex discrimination... The House of Lords overturned the Court of Appeal decision and ruled, by a majority, that such post-employment conduct can amount to discrimination. Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority (OPRA) 2001 determination on The Circa Leisure Final Salary scheme available from http://www.opra.gov.uk/legalActivity/determinations/determination_8606_00.asp In summary, OPRA found against the Trustees and imposed penalties. Circa merged with Relaxion to form Leisure Connection. Maximising the Income Potential of Swimming Pools from http://www.ilam.co.uk/downloads/events/3061-0806.pdf Health & Safety at Work Prosecution from http://www.harrow.gov.uk/ccm/content/business/health-and-safety/prosecutions-register/hsw-prosecutions-register.en "Prosecutions taken by Harrow Council against local businesses for health & safety crimes.... On 20/7/98 a bulk supply of hydrochloric acid (supplied by Hays Chemicals) was wrongly delivered (by Assured Movements) by pumping it into the wrong tank in the Leisure Centre pool plant room (managed by Relaxion). This released a cloud of chlorine gas causing mass evacuation of the centre. A few people were temporarily affected by the fumes. All three companies were prosecuted and convicted: Assured Movements Ltd – Fine and costs of £15,550 Relaxion Group plc- Fine and costs of £33,600 (Circa merged with Relaxion to form Leisure Connection). Hays Chemicals Distribution Ltd – Fine and costs of £33,990"
