Tracy DepotTracy is remembered from Laura's books as the furthest place the railroad had got to on her journey from Walnut Grove to Silver Lake. It is also mentioned in passing in her book 'The Long Winter'. The 'Wheels Across the Prairie Museum' includes an impressive 1915 engine, an immigrant car and caboose outside a large museum building. Considering the importance of the railroad to Laura and her story it is surprising that no one else has thought to include exhibits about the railway. Tracy has therefore found a valuable niche for those seeking to visit Laura Ingalls sites. Next to the train is a railroad depot contemporary with Laura's association with the railroad. Inside the museum are a vast array of artifacts depicting the history of the town. There are tools and documents, clothing and toys to mention just a few of the exhibits. Most people will probably only stop here on the way to somewhere else which is a shame because there is more to see than a short stop will accommodate.
