Playing Second Fiddle

The old village bands that existed in many parts of England up to the middle of the 19th century consisted of highly musically literate people who developed their own rudimentary arrangements for the dance tunes that they played. Here are some example arrangements to give you some ideas and get you away from the scenario where everyone plays exactly the same melody line.
