The Penny Blue is an example of a ship design that wasn't so much announced as discovered. It is based on an Original Tech A2 design that dates back to the First Imperium. Indeed, it is supposed to look like a refit and limited update of a ship built by the First Imperium. In fact, apart from the crystaliron hull, there isn't a single component that isn't built to a higher tech level.

Appearing to be a relatively standard Far Trader that has been upgraded with a standard defence package (lasers and sand), a backup jump drive and additional HEPlaR drives, the Penny Blue can actually make jump 4 and initiate jump 3 whilst under full manoeuvre and with all defences (including the lasers) active.

All the alterations have been made in such a way that they are undetectable short of a major overhaul.

It is capable of carrying 14m3 of cargo plus one sophont in a low berth with a guarantee that no one using any known technology will discover your cargo.
