I've been researching the surname of MOVERLEY & it's variants for several years now and have amassed quite a lot of information
on the various branches.As a result it has been registered with the GOONS as a one name
study (member number: 2748).The name is thought to be of French origin and the first 'immigrant'
is said to have waded ashore as standard bearer to William de Percy in 1066 when the Normans
leapt from their landing craft and pinched all the sun loungers before Harold and his boys had chance to finish their cornflakes ..... at least, that's what my history teacher told me. From the research conducted thus far,there appear to be six independent and separate branches
of the family consisting of five originating in Yorkshire and a large contingent in Kent.There are also several sub-branches whose origins are not yet known.Shown below is a breakdown of the earliest place and time of these six main branches.
