SANDSIDE HOUSE Welcome to Sandside on the island of Graemsay,
Orkney, Scotland, which is owned by me, Sian Thomas.
I
first saw the house in May 1999 when visiting the
island with a friend, James Antrican. I knew immediately it was where
I
wanted to live. Although the house may at first seem very isolated, Graemsay is, in fact,
a
very close knit community and welcomes newcomers.
Sandside, which
was nearly derelict when we first saw it, has now been
completely renovated. Both James and I shared a vision for the design of
the house, however James has now chosen to remain in London and I have
taken over full ownership.
I’ve chosen Sandside as a place to live, where
I can be more in tune
with the natural rhythms of life. The house has undergone extensive renovations in recent years and photos of the various stages of the house being "reborn" can be found throughout this website. Feel free to take a look around Sandside and its environs through these pages.
