Life and Work of the Church

Currently, public worship on Sunday is at 10.30 a.m. The average Sunday attendance is between 120 and 150. There are also monthly Wednesday services. Average attendance at these Wednesday services is 50, with most attending a light lunch provided in Hall afterwards. Wednesday services were a new idea and have proved popular over the last two years.

The favoured candidate for St Margaret’s Church would be a minister for the Parish, with a strong commitment to the community beyond the Church door.

The Church, through its minister, Pastoral Care Group, Session membership and wider family links, has participated actively in the lives of the local primary and secondary schools and local nursing homes, in which there are regular services. The minister visits Dalry people who are in hospital. Close links have been maintained with local commerce, industry and the farming community.

Good relations are enjoyed with all other religious leaders in the community. A number of special services with local organisations are held throughout the year.

A Parish Grouping is in place with Dalry Trinity as part of the Ardrossan Presbytery Plan. The sharing of hospital visiting is an example of the Grouping in practice. A copy of the Parish Grouping agreement is appended.

The Church, hall and manse

We have a well-maintained Church and Hall. The Hall has potential for future development when finances are available. The Hall kitchen and toilets were recently completely renewed to a very high standard, thanks to funding from the Church Shop.

The church, opened for public worship in 1873, features much very fine stained glass, some old and some installed in the twenty-first century. The fine organ was installed in the 1950s, after an early ‘career’ in a Glasgow church.
