There's many photos here from many sources, give them time to load, it will be worth it.

July 1977, the Golden Rule in Ambleside, my sister Sheila's 18th birthday. The very hairy Pete Hillman and Graham Lawton had actually just completed their first year at University, whereas I had just finished a humbling 3rd year in the Sixth Form at BGS. The other bloke is Ian Cameron, ex Fleetwood Grammar and also on another photo somewhere near the bottom of the page. Later the same evening after consuming vast quantities of beer Pete attempted to drive back to the caravan where we were staying. One of those Lake District dry stone walls had the nerve to leap out and badly damage the nearside wing of his Singer Vogue, miraculously we escaped without serious injury. When you're 19 you believe you're indestructable.

OK I know these young ladies didn't go to BGS but quite a few of you knew them. It's Summer 1977 at the Lytham St Annes College end of term dance. Left to right, Gill Kwik (now Connors), my cousin, Joanna Bird (now Beith), friend from schooldays at Millfield in Thornton, and Sheila Yarwood (now Meades) my sister. Sheila appears to be going through an Alanis Morrisette phase 20 years too early!!

Taken at Thornton Sailing Club, where many of us used to socialise in the early 70s, we see Graham Lawton, John Crossley, Simon Richardson and John Ferguson. In addition to drinking vast quantities of beer some of this lot actually used to sail as well, Graham in particular had quite an impressive trophy collection.

Blue skies and strange rituals in Transwyrania. Tracy Carter, Steve Gaulter and Paul Brough. A rain dance perhaps?

Proud boys and their motors, L to R we have Paul Wright, Graham Hornby, Ian Parkes and Chris Whiteside. The Mini belonged to Steve Evans and we reckon the black Standard Vanguard was John Crossley's. I think we can safely assume that Chris was on two wheels unless he wore a helmet when driving his car. Prefects' ties on some of the chaps fixes this as late 75 or early 76. [Photo courtesy of Steve Evans]

This one was actually taken from the Summer 1977 Poultonian and depicts the tension on the bench during the annual Masters v Prefects football match. I was actually playing up front for the Prefects and as I recall we won 2-0 with a couple of second half goals from Martin 'Dids' Langford. In the picture we can definitely see Frank Hessey (Arthur Field's sidekick for a number of years), Phil Hesslegrave (re taking 'O' Levels at the time he tells me), and Neil Smith (sometime drummer with Warlock). Why is Phil H holding a toilet roll? In the background I think we can see Phil Mason, who also features in the Baines 69/70 Rock Family Tree.

Now what have we here? The future of rock 'n roll? Warlock were the first group to emerge from the Class of 69, this is one of their later incarnations. Left to right, Ada Hindle, bass and trouser problems, John 'Grinny' Grinton, drums and later a founding member of the notorious Skrewdriver, Anton Rosenfield, rhythm guitar and lead vocal, Phil Walmsley, lead guitar and also a future member of Skrewdriver. Venue for this gig is possibly the Alpine Club on Foxhall Road, Blackpool, amongst the audience we see Chris Swift (as she was then), shortish dark hair with back to camera giving the evil eye to the girl on the right. Chris is an old friend from Baines Endowed and beyond, she is still alive and well and living in Wolverhampton.

Back Row: Arthur Field, Gary Vickers, Norman Brown, Pete Hillman,
John Rishton, Alan Porter, Andy Whitehurst, Kev Gerrard.
Front Row: Tony Clayton (?), Pete Holme, Steve Field, Ian
Jenkinson (?), Mark Bywater.

Photo (and the one below) taken by Pete Holme but
supplied by Dave Martland.
Biology Field Trip to Orielton, South Wales, June 11th-18th 1975.
Unloading Graham's van on arrival by the looks of it. Due to its
many and varied uses this vehicle achieved a fair amount of
notoriety in its time. Left to right, Dave Martland, Graham
Lawton, Steve Evans (levitating), Steve Yarwood (almost hidden),
Simon Richardson, Ken Muir.

Still on the Welsh Field Trip, towards the end of the week, by this time warm relationships had been established with a number of young ladies from Cheltenham College. I guess they liked a bit of northern rough!! The boys (L to R all standing) Steve Yarwood (thins arms, clutching cigarette packet), Dave Coulburn (we think, or maybe it's a ghost), Dave Martland, Simon Richardson. The girls, Carolyn, Julie, Judith, Gill. They all had things like horses, Land Rovers and big houses.

Last day of term 1974, outside the toilets, where many a cigarette was smoked but it was a brave lad who went in there for any other purpose. School's out completely for most of these guys. I think we can see Steve and Chris Parkinson, Pete Wareing, Craig McCarthy, Dave Sharpe, Steve Evans, Dave Moorhouse, Don Ashness, Graham Hornby, Russell Cohen, Richard Grime. Anyone got a light? In the throws of post A Level euphoria we have (L to R) Dave Spencer, Chris Parker (with beard, on leave from South Shields Nautical College), Simon Richardson, Chris Birkett, Andy Greenwood and Martin Stone. Thanks to Dave Spencer for the photo.

Graham Hornby discovered the photo taken outside the gym where many of us used to play football, but we are not entirely certain about all the identities. The album held by Pete Wareing is Brain Salad Surgery by Emerson, Lake and Palmer [excellent choice!!] which was released in the UK in November 1973. There are no Winter coats in evidence yet the clothes do not suggest Summer, so I would guess at Spring 1974 as we approached the end of our 5th year. Current thinking on the names are as follows, left to right, Graham Hornby, Steve Evans, Steve Parkinson (SJ Parkinson and CE Parkinson were non identical twins), Dave Sharpe, Craig McCarthy, Dave Moorhouse, Pete Wareing, AN Other (possibly Richard Hughes but very hard to tell).

A rather seedy caravan at Bouth in the south Lakes, note the margarine tub light shade and stains from the previous night's take away on Graham's shirt. Left to Right, Ian Cameron (a Fleetwood Grammar boy, not too many of them around!), Simon Richardson, Phil Jeremiah and Graham Lawton, photo by SY.

School trip to Switzerland Summer 1973, balcony of our room in the Hollybrucken Gasthaus, Kerns, a village in the Lucerne region. Left to right, Paul Metcalfe, open shirt, always fancied himself, Phil Jeremiah, always had a good supply of progressive rock tapes, Pete Hillman, shame about the haircut, and Simon Richardson, who you can hardly see. Photo by SY.

Winners of the Blackpool Schools' Sports Council Under 15 Cup 1973. Amongst the dodgy haircuts are, back row L to R, Jim Moseley, Steve Riley, John Rishton, Paul Metcalfe, Gary Vickers, Steve Yarwood, Mr Roberts. Front row, Alan Porter, Craig McCarthy, Lorne Hayhurst, Derek Dickinson, Richard Joyce. We were allowed to have a couple of over age players in the team, in our case Pete Rees and Alan Bell, for some strange reason they are not on this photo despite their talent and contribution to the Cup victory.

Cigarette break whilst motorbikin' up Wrynose Pass in the Lakes circa 1975, I was the odd one out in that I didn't own a bike. Left to right Chris Whiteside (good parties at his house), Dave Walker (non Baines and Norton 500), Steve Evans (ginger hair and tall) and yours truly (note the highly fashionable Parka and the coveted Blackpool FC scarf).

Same trip as above, Yarwood (extreme left) sits unconvincingly astride Pete Holme's bike. A frightening looking Chris Whiteside (second right) contemplates joining the SAS. Biking photos courtesy of Pete Holme.

One of a number of parties that took place at Pete Hillman's house circa 75-76. At the top is my sister Sheila, the next three left to right are my cousin Gill Kwik, Simon Richardson, Graham Lawton, next row is Janet who was Graham's girlfriend, and Phil Jeremiah, bottom row L to R is unidentified blonde friend of Pete Hillman's girlfriend, Pete Holme, Graham Wardman, Pete Hillman's girlfriend, and Pete himself pulling a silly face.
