25--Music Successes-In the recent School examination held in connection with the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, the following candidates were successful in grammar of music:-Division I., Gwendoline M. Porter, of Southery, and Kathleen P. Jordan. Division II., Dorothy A. Dade. They were all pupils of Miss Theobald.

8--Four officers of the British Army, Lieut. D. W. Price, R.E., Lieut. H. A. H. Radcliffe Smith, R.E., Lieut. E. W. Dennison, R.E., and Lieut. T. P. Brown, R.E., spoke on "What Christ means to me" at a Meeting hold in the Constitutional Hall.

Capt. J. V. McCormack, M.C., R.A., was in the Chair Monthly Service for Men held at the Parish Church. The special speaker was the Rev. H. K Stallard, of Little Downham

!!! 2--Meeting of the Ely Rural District Council, held at Ely. Discussion on the proposed river embankment between Sandhill Bridge and Littleport Bridge.

3--Good Friday-Two hours Service at Parish Church taken by Rev, C. G. Reed, Vicar of Wilburton

Service of song held at Primitive Methodist Chapel Concert held in Brandon Bank Schoolroom in connection with Brandon Bank Women's Institute

5--Easter Day-Last P.S.A. of session held at Primitive Methodist Chapel

!!! The number of eggs collected at Little Ouse on behalf of Addenbrooke's Hospital was over 1,800. This surpassed all previous efforts

6--Easter Monday-Nearly 130 people attended "Imps" first Dance, held at the Constitutional Hall

7--Bi-monthly Meeting of Town Lands Charity. The yearly accounts were presented and showed the Charity to be over £39 better off than the previous year

!!! 12--At a special Service, held in the Parish Church, 1,440 eggs were given for Addenbrooke's Hospital

13--Egg collection for Addenbrooke's Hospital made at meeting of the Women's Institute

Music success-In the recent "School" examination held at Cambridge in connection with the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music Gwendoline Porter (Southery), pupil of Miss Theobald, passed in the elementary division for pianoforte playing

Littleport Schoolboys won Downham Schools Football Shield by defeating Southery and Feltwell Schoolboys 7-0 in the final tie

16--Death, at Addenbrooke's Hospital, of Mr. Herbert Nunn, of Wisbech Road

19--Anniversary Services held at Wesleyan Church. During the afternoon Service the March Choir gave a rendering of the cantata "Elisha and the Shunammite."

!!! Mr. H C. Franklin, who left Littleport in 1911 to take up an appointment on the Sudan Government Railways, has had conferred upon him the Fifth Order of the Nile by the King of Egypt, in recognition of his services. Mr. Franklin is at present the District Traffic Official at Atbara

24--Nurse Duncan, parish nurse, resigned after 20 years of nursing in the locality. She was succeeded by Nurse Page

29--Women's Institute held a Jumble Sale and Dance in the Constitutional Hall, in aid of Addenbrooke's Hospital, the old age pensioners tea, and the Institute funds

3--Death of Mrs. G. Sallis, of The Chestnuts Farm, Burnt Fen

4--Grocers and butchers play football match in aid of Addenbrooke's Hospital. Grocers won, 8-3

5--Meeting of Hospital Sunday Committee

6--Bowls season opened on Hempfield Green

!!! 7--The Rural District Council met at Ely. A discussion took place on the need of further houses in Littleport

11--Women's Institute held their monthly Meeting in Constitutional Hall. Miss Shepperson gave a demonstration on "Smocking"

12--Thirty-two members of the Mothers' Union attended festival gathering at Bury St. Edmunds

13--Littleport Schoolboys won Isle School Cup by defeating Wisbech Queen's School in re-played final. The score was 4-1

14--Meeting of Amalgamated Friendly Societies' Sports' Committee

15--Mr. H. Harrison won final game of Domino Tournament held during winter months at Constitutional Club. Mr. H. Murfitt and Mr. H. Ashby were second and third respectively

The Rev. G. R Walters arrived to take up his duties as curate in the parish He came from Barnham, Thetford, Suffolk. Among his many appointments he has held the position of a chaplain in India for 16 years

16--Cricket-Littleport v. Denver at Denver. The game was abandoned owing to rain

17--Sunday School Anniversary Services held at Mildenhall Road Wesleyan Methodist Chapel

18--Annual General Meeting of Littleport Swimming Club

19--Members of schoolboys' football team entertained to tea through the kindness of Mrs. Lincolne. Afterwards they visited the Empire Cinema, this being made possible through the kindness of the proprietor

20--Special preparation service for communicants held in the Parish Church, conducted by the Vicar

24--Whit-Sunday-Special sermons, in aid of Missions, preached at Parish Church by Rev. Austin, of Dornakel, South India

Death, at Ely, of Mr. William Clack, in his 84th year

25--Whit-Monday-Hospital Committee held their annual Sports at Highfield in glorious weather

The local branch of the Liberal Association held an American Tennis Tournament at their courts. Mrs. H. Bell and Mr. P. Roakes were the winners.

Amalgamated Friendly Societies Committee held a very successful Dance in the Constitutional Hall

28--Annual General Meeting of Littleport Angling Club at Black Horse Inn

30--Tragic death, at Addenbrooke's Hospital, of Lillian Harley, the only child of Mr, and Mrs. Herbert Harley. She was 11 years of age

Opening of new Tennis Courts recently acquired by the local branch of the Junior Imperial League (Imps). The opening ceremony was performed by Mrs. Hill, wife of Major Hill, prospective Conservative candidate for the Isle

JUNE, 1931.

1--Bi-monthly meeting of Town Lands Charity.

2--In connection with the Ely and District Girl Guides Association, an Ambulance Competition was held in the Town Hall. The 1st Littleport Company were the winners, with 81 per cent.

4--Young Liberals held Tennis Tournament on Friars Nine Courts. The winners were Mr. J. H. Cox and Miss B. Rowell

5--Anniversary Services held at Wesleyan Church

8--Garden Fete, in connection with Parish Church, held in Vicarage garden

!!! 10--Two cottages abutting on the Littleport Road, between Bull Dog Bridge and Mile End Road, Prickwillow, completely destroyed by fire. They were owned by Mr. L. V. Daniels and occupied by Mr. J, Pearce and Mr. W. West

11--Members of the Ely Rural Deanery Sunday School Teachers' Association met at Littleport for their annual Festival and Meeting

Tennis--Littleport "Imps" v. Littleport Liberals. The "Imps" won. by 22 sets to 4

Cricket--Littleport defeated Manea in exciting match by 4 runs

12--Flower Service held at Parish Church

Hospital Sunday at Little Ouse. This was the first effort independent of any other place ever held there. The amount collected during the day was £13 5s. 7d.

13--Monthly Meeting of Women's Institute. The meeting had been arranged to take the form of a garden party, but owing to the inclemency of the weather, the idea was abandoned, and instead, a Whist Drive was held in the Constitutional Hall

15--Meeting of Hospital Sunday Committee

United Sunday Schools' Outing to Hunstanton

Bakers' and Butchers' Outing to Yarmouth

16--Mr. G. Murfitt, of Mill Pit Furlong, broke his leg in motor cycle collision with Mr. Wm. Marshall. The accident occurred on the Mildenhall Road

19--The Rev. G. J. Chamberlain (Circuit Minister) paid his last visit during his Ely ministry to Wesleyan Chapel. He conducted the morning and evening services

21--Annual Meeting of Town Football Club

!!! 23--Mr. F. H. Nunn, of Little Ouse, was thrown with his car into a ditch by the side of the Mildenhall Road when trying to avoid an approaching motor cycle. Happily, his injuries were of a minor character

24--Death, at Addenbrooke's Hospital, of Mr. Sidney Hart at the age of 22 years

25--First day of Littleport Feast

Littleport Swimming Club held their Annual Water Sports. The challenge cup was won by F. L. Liles, of Cambridge A.S.C.

26--Littleport Hospital Sunday. Heavy rainfall caused abandonment of the evening Parade

28--Littleport Horticultural and Foal Show Society's Annual Show and Gala. There were nearly 1,200 entries in the Horticultural Section

29--Meeting held in Constitutional Hall in connection with Addenbrooke's Hospital Contributory Scheme

Bowls--Littleport v. Haddenham. Littleport won by the narrow margin of 3 points

Music successes-In the recent School Examinations, held at Cambridge in connection with the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, the following candidates were successful: Piano playing-pass, lower division, Katharine A. Spinks (of Ely) ; pass, elementary, May Brown, Sylvia Fincham and Olive M. Chapman; pass, primary, Winifred F. Hiblin and Charles F. Parker; honourable mention, Doris M. Baker. All are pupils of Miss E. Theobald

30--Bowls-Littleport v. Isleham, at Isleham. Isleham won by 36 woods

AUGUST, 1931.

1--Opening of "Imps" new Tennis Pavilion by Mrs. Lindsay Smith.

3--Tennis Tournament held in connection with Littleport "Imps" on their new green

4--Bi-monthly meeting of Town Lands Charity

Death, in New Zealand, of Mr. George Scott, at the age of 42 years. He was the son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. R. Stubbings, of Croft House, Dairy Houses

5--Bowls--Ely defeated Littleport by 10 points

By the kindness of Mrs. E. Mortimer Rose, a Garden Fete, organised by the Littleport "Imps," was held in the gardens of Plantation House. Mrs. John Hill and Mrs. Randolph Lycett, two distinguished lawn tennis players, were present, and Major J. E. Hill, O.B.E., performed the opening ceremony

7--The Town Schools broke up for their summer holiday

!!! The local Branch of the British Legion held a special meeting to discuss the question of another War Memorial. It was decided to ask the Feoffees for permission to remove the present tablet and place it on a suitable edifice to be erected in a suitable place

!!! 8--Heavy thunderstorms raged at Littleport. Places of the town were flooded and the day proved to be the wettest experienced in the Isle of Ely for the last 19 years

12--Choir Boys' Outing to Yarmouth

Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Cox recently retired as Master and Matron of the Transport and General Workers' Union and Convalescent Home. They have gone to live at Plumstead

17--Monthly meeting of Women's Institute. A demonstration on "Sweet Making" was given by Mrs. Laws

19--Combined Whist and Bridge Drive held in Constitutional Hall by the Women's Conservative Association

23--Visit of Cambridge Salvation Army Band

24--Bowls--Littleport v. Ely Conservatives. The former won by 5 points

30--March Imperial Band visited Littleport

Miss D. A. Dade, Miss E. M. Stevens and Miss E. Smith, all scholars from Littleport, succeeded in passing the Cambridge School certificate examination

SEPTEMBER, 1931.

2--Races for juvenile swimmers of the town and district held at the Swimming Bath

4--Death, at Cambridge, of Mr. Frederick Brown. Although he was a native of Little Downham, he had resided at 7, Hitches Street, for nearly 20 years. He was 54 years of age

6--Salvation Army Senior Harvest celebration held at Army Citadel and conducted by Major W. C. Williams, of Norwich

13--Death of Mrs. Page, at Little Downham. She was a native of Littleport

Rev F. Halliwell, M.A., Vicar of Little Ouse, preached at Pariah Church

Salvation Army Young People's Corps celebrated their Harvest Festival.

14--Monthly Meeting of Women's Institute held at Constitutional Hall. Mrs. Laws was presented with three certificates of merit, which she had won in cookery competitions

Boxing Club disbanded owing to lack of public support

16--Meeting of Parish Council at Town Hall

17-20--Harvest Thanksgiving Services held at St. John's Church, Little Ouse

20--Harvest Festival Services at Primitive Methodist Church Harvest

Thanksgiving at Wesleyan Church

In trying to avoid some pedestrians, Mr. Robert Mears Audus, of 106, Victoria Street, fell heavily from his bicycle and severely injured his head. He died in Addenbrooke's Hospital a, few hours' later. He was 70 years old

21---Town Schools re-opened after a holiday of six weeks' duration

22--Semi-finals and Finals of competition for Teake Bowls Cup. Mr. R,. Thurlow defeated Mr. H. Pettitt in the final round

23--Members of Women's Institute entertained nearly 100 Old Age Pensioners to a tea and social evening

Meeting of Committee appointed to deal with the working of Addenbrooke's Hospital Contributory Scheme in Littleport

General Meeting of Constitutional Club to consider the advisability of laying a bowls green and a putting green on land situated near the existing premises. It was decided to take a vote upon the question at the Annual Meeting to be held in December

25--Death, at a nursing home in Northampton, of Mrs. M. Ash, at the age of 57 years. She was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Seeker, of Littleport

27--Harvest Festival Services at Dairy Houses Wesleyan Chapel

10--Mr. P. H. Smith, of White House Drove, Littleport, was seriously injured when he collided with two pedestrians while motor cycling along the Ely-Stretham Road

11--Harvest Festival at St. Crispin's Mission Room

Little Daphne Youngs, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Youngs, of Mill Pit Furlong, was knocked down by a motor car on the Ely Road and seriously injured

Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Cox, of Station Road, celebrated their golden wedding

14--Tragic death of Mr. Phillip William Fulcher, who was killed in collision with two other men. They were Mr. William Bates Harley, of Littleport, and Mr. William Goodliff, of Little Downham. Mr. Harley was seriously injured but Mr. Goodliff escaped with minor injuries. Mr. Fulcher was 24 years of age
